Sadly, the whole game does thanks to horrifically uninspired art direction and the terrible choice of using 2.5D polygonal graphics over the traditional sprites that have been used for the past 2D Metroid games.

It's kind of sad when a game from 2002 for the GameBoy Advance looks better than Samus Returns.

I think it's them trying to leverage the 3DS's built in rim shader pipelines or something to give it that soft look, but yeah it is way too overdone.
