DaS goes further than any other game in abandoning the idea of the hub. Every place you're in is just as much 'home' as any other, really. I like it. It ties into the idea of the undead being pilgrims. Late in the game, right around when you acquire the Lordvessel but even before that, when you've unlocked the elevator at Sen's, and reconnected the shortcuts joining Blight Town to Firelink via New Londo, there's a real sense of progress in joining those broken threads back together.
