Doomfist has a fuckhueg hitbox himself and easily falls apart to any. Sombra, OP's picture, actually shuts him down entirely because he can't possibly get to her before she hacks him (barring a player massive skill gap), and his entire damage is in his skills - he does piddly damage with just the shotgun.

I main Ana and I find Doomfist a delicious target. Less nimble than Genji or Tracer, the other heroes that like to dive; his mobility is way more easily telegraphed, as it follows a more set pattern and is less malleable; and he also has a fuckhueg hitbox, so he is super easy to sleepdart. Zenyatta can focus him down at a distance; McCree can simply aim for his big head and annihilate him; Soldier 76 generally has a favorable matchup against him; Pharah should always be at a high enough elevation to remove him.

What Doomfist is good at is finding opportunities and punishing him. He is good at scoring picks and fantastic on some maps, but he's nowhere near OP and not a guaranteed one-shot hero with no punishment. Take some time and you'll learn to play around him.

I only get mad when I get Oneshot in really dumb scenarios.
If you're standing in a doorway and doomfist hits you backward, you instantly die even if there's no wall behind you because you "collide" with the doorways sides. This also happens if theres a wall to your right or left. Even though you wouldn't have hit the wall at all, you get slammed.
His hitbox also stretches below him as he flies through the air. Even if he misses you and goes completely over your head, you get hit anyway.

On the flipside, getting stunned or hacked at all while flying through the air stops you immediately as if you hit an invisible wall and lose all momentum. It's also really dumb that you literally don't even have a special melee with your fist, it's all skills. He's probably one of the easiest heroes to counter in the game.
In fact, if there's a pharah or sombra on the other team you might as well not play him at all.

I see this a lot, and the player invariably has the same problem: they aren't aware their teammates have a different viewpoint from them and just assume everyone will settle on the same COA as you at the same time as you and that everything will fall into place just like that. Tracer and Genji's prevalence is strongly tied to how Winston became the game's de facto main tank. Those two guys aren't a particularly good fit for a Reinhardt deathball, for instance. During OW Cup, Soldier 76 wasn't even picked more often than these two in a combo, which means more specialized heroes (Genji and Tracer are definitely flanking-aligned) can definitely outshine the ultimate generalist.

I appreciate your eye for theory, but things are not so clear-cut in practice, ESPECIALLY for the majority of players, since very few people are high-tier and also weren't carried there.
You have to understand that players have their own personal comforts and inclinations to factor in when you try to determine their effectiveness. Say that Bob was a beast with the pill launcher in TF2 and transitions naturally into Junkrat (a low-tier bitch, if the pro's meta lists are to be followed); he'll do better on JR than on S76 if he doesn't have the hitscan skillset, even though S76 is much higher rated.
There's also human error to consider. Ideally you should always be working towards improvement, but there's a ton of wiggle room for non-standard picks up until you're actually at the point where the mechanics are limiting you, rather than vice versa. That's why you freeze instead of kill or pick Bastion or Junkrat or whatever over Tracer/Genji.

It's a team game that bends over backwards to prevent any one player from having too much influence, so I don't know what else you might expect. Kaplan actually addressed this at some point. I think it was around the time she was getting finally getting her first significant buffs. She's supposed to be a disruptor, not an assassin (like Tracer or Widowmaker or anyone else who can get picks easily). Every team is held up by one or more support pillars, and Sombra offers an efficient way to topple those pillars by hacking whoever is causing trouble (the Rein blocking everything, the Widow immediately shitting on everyone who enters her LoS, the Genji/Doomfist/Tracer picking your healers every time they respawn, etc). Her passive is misleading when viewed through this lens, but otherwise it seems to check out. She's pretty bad in uncoordinated pubs though, because creating windows of opportunity does nothing if there's no one to follow up on them.

I know they're not NEARLY as abusable as the hook and cook, but the thing is - that's all Roadhog was about. Yeah the hook sometimes was bullshit, oyu could use that bullshit too. it was like a necessary evil. It's the only thing that made Hog fun and now it just seems like too much work for him to get a decent kill or damage people. He's a tank sure, and I get they wanted him to be less solo kill and more team oriented. But if I wanted that I'd switch to D.Va or Reinhardt. Roadhog was a self sufficient nuisance that posed a real threat. Now he's a fat bulletsponge that can't DPS as well as other tanks.

I did main Sombra when I sill played Overwatch, then I realised that Overwatch's excessive focus on team co-ordination and positioning, at the expense of pure mechanical skill, makes it literally a babby-tier shooter.

I kill fresh Soldiers, McCrees, Mercys etc. on a daily basis with this. Even Doomfist 7/10 times due to his risky playstyle and the fact he is rarely at 100% HP

Being able to hook and cook CQC beasts like Reaper and Mei was bullshit. Reaper is the CQC monster - if any hero can 1v1 Reaper, not including a huge skill gap, Blizz are doing something wrong

My brother (who exclusively plays healers) used to be ranked high silver, then he started watching professional tournaments and he is now ranked mid-bronze.

I bring it up because he keeps insisting to me that sombra is meta and one of the best characters in the game right now, because she is played in pro matches.

It's basically 6-8 of the best hero picks depending on patching, having a 20-second teamfight, rinse and repeat

QP and low-level comp actually take into consideration map factors, utilise defense heroes, pick unusual heroes and try and use them creativity etc.

I stopped watching pro-play when I saw a KOTH match where neither team was on the point and just had a 20-second teamfight outside the point to decide who captured it. There was no back-and-forth, no Lucio/Tracer delaying tactics, no creative Torb/Sym/Mei use, no environmental kills - nothing. And this happens on every map regardless of the meta (dive, deathball etc.) and regardless of whether it's 2CP, payload, KOTH etc.
