He isn't portrayed as a villain though. He's a jackass who wants to do what's right for his people in almost every game other than the first (which was then remade as Spring Breeze and Return of the King).

How is he misunderstood? Everyone who's played a Kirby game knows he is never a true villain. Even in Smash Bros he does jerky shit for good reasons.
