Is this game good? Did it mature the artform?

I honestly enjoyed the fuck out of it. Pretty creepy, especially if you go in unspoiled and just enjoy it.

Is it a game? Kind of... Either ways, it's fun if you're into these walking sim type games. (Even though this is more of a shitty database search sim)

It actually is somewhat challenging.
Unlike Gone Home, you really have to piece the story together yourself. And even then you will not get all the answers you seek.
Other than that, the gameplay itself is actually challenging.
You have to gather clues and test assumptions you make in order to get more pieces of the story.

It did not mature the artform as much as expand it. I'm surprised their aren't more games in this style, just like we have lots of walking sim games now like Tacoma.

As someone who has 100% the game without walkthroughs...the premise itself is fun and unravelling the mystery feels rewarding and makes you feel smart, but the actual plot is really dumb and the story is half assed. You will probably get the last few tapes rather early on, and the ending / plot twist while not predictable, is pretty lackluster.

In short, it is a bad story with good execution.
