Why?
V's theme music was stellar.

Yakuza Ishin is right up there with it too.

What? Both 4 and 2 had great theme music that wasn't part of the radio.
>>386369487
Yakuza's music went to shit with Kiwami and is forgettable in 6. Sad times.
Most Sonic games composed by Ohtani, Unleashed, Colors, and Generations are fucking fantastic, Shane about the gameplay though

Rayman Legends
If there's anything the recent Deus Ex games have done right, it's the soundtracks.
Last of Us goes without saying
>"mwƦh game sucks"
You're so cool...
And a totally overlooked gem Codename 47 IMO.
This is the way to write music for a game. You can have very simple mechanics and outdated visuals, but still create an atmosphere that >sticks< with you through sound and music.
A rule of thumb in filmmaking is "Your picture is never better than your audio" and I think a lot of game devs don't realise this. They go for flashy graphics and lense flare to create atmosphere and settle for a forgettable soundtrack.... but that's the stuff that sticks with you, that resonates and makes you daydream... not 4K resolution.
On it's own, this is just a great record, I think.

Never said it was bad, Harry Potter is the last good thing Williams did besides Memoirs of a Geisha
However, the main theme of the game and the latter part of Hedwig's theme follows a similar rhythm and are in the same key. The issue is that Spule composed this around the end of 1999, whereas the first Harry Potter movie was later.

>>386375637
I hear what you're saying, but I feel like 2/3 of that game's sound design was Not-CJ complaining or all the other characters telling him to stop complaining.

>>386376098
Well this is about the OST, not the sound design. The real lackluster thing about the sound design were the gun sounds, they were a step down from IV's. And this is a completely different discussion entirely, but I liked Franklin quite a bit, thought that he was quite different from CJ and that his status as a gangbanger in a post-gangbanging world served other purposes in the story besides a callback to San Andreas

>>386376723
You right, but I meant that the implementation of the music into the overall sound design didn't do the music justice.
And I didn't care for Franklin at all, but I also thought that Trevor was the most sympathetic character in the game, so who the fuck am I to say... but yeah, different topic.

>>386377263
Ah, okay. Yeah, we'll have to disagree there, hell, one of the reasons why "The Long Stretch" is my favorite mission in GTA V is because of how well I thought everything in the sound design came together to portray the experience of your dumbass friend dragging you into a drug deal destined to go wrong and you having to shoot your way out of a cramped, rundown burning building. Something about the pump shotgun and its blasts (my favorite gun because it's the only gun that feels like it has any weight to it, plus it's pretty good) being the main weapon for the mission, the main mission music (which is We Were Set Up, just longer and in multiple parts), Franklin, Lamar, and Stretch panicking and shouting at each other (you can sometimes hear dialogue from Franklin that hints at his depression and dialogue from Stretch that hints at his alliance with the Ballas), the Ballas' shouting, the sounds of the recycling plant burning down around you, the sounds of the police helicopter waiting outside to ambush you, and the police sirens in the distance created something pretty magical for me
Glover for the N64 has some good tracks.
