>>
>>386359404
Yes it was.
>>
>>386359404
I actually replayed it recently, it wasn't as bad as I remember from the first time.

It also felt a bit liberating to play as Connor after three games in a row as Ezio. I still completely understand why people dislike him, but I kind of enjoy his character now.

If anything, he's probably the most idealistic of all the assassins in the series that I've experienced (have played till Black Flag/Freedom's Cry.) I also enjoyed his honesty and his drive, it was a pity that everyone around him were fucking idiots.
>>
>>386359520
It was much better than came out later (excluding Black Flag)

The ending of the game made me so mad, only ME3's ending managed to replicate that dreadful feeling. I could just FEEL ubisoft saying "here we gon kill desmond bcuz we need to milk this shit for all that it's worth, enjoy "
>>
>>386359404
This is legitimately the worst AAA I've ever played, and I'm not exaggerating. (Granted, since this game I have mostly avoided hype and AAA games anyways.)
>chase sequences out the ass, including the final mission
>Connor was awfully written, and no contrarian "haha he was SUPPOSED to be dumb and manipulated at all times" can make it right. Not to mention pretty bland voice acting.
>the pacing was entirely fucked with the story jumping ahead years at a time to shoehorn Connor into every memorable historical event possible
>enormous, barren wilderness that gets boring after the third time you run on those well crafted linear routes through the trees
>the entire game was catered to first time players, or people with zero video game experience, with training missions into THE SIXTH SEQUENCE. Absolutely insulting.
>the setting hampered the freerunning, verticle gameplay that made the previous games so good. I'll give ubi half a pass here because they kept it historically accurate, but there was nothing fun or exciting about climbing one big church and two story houses constantly
>still full of bugs and non-responsive movement from previous entries despite being in development for twice as long
I could go on but it was just a lazy effort with almost no redeemable qualities. This game cucked me hard and it was the straw that broke the camel's back; I haven't preordered or bought a game on hype since. It was a good preview of modern day Ubi.
>>
>>386360442
Randy what are you doing in an Assassin's Creed thread?
>>
>>386360608
Try AC2 and Brotherhood, AC became unplayable after black flag because they decided to change the gameplay but they just made it worse
>>
>>386359638
There are some things that it did better, like having a likeable cast of characters compared to Unity and Syndicate (I fucking hate Arno) but there's still the mess of Connor's characterisation in the last quarter of the plot. AC3 is probably the worst case of Ubishit's half-assed craftmanship in their entire lineup. The elements for the game to be really great were there and in place but the project almost very clearly lost steam and became a mess as soon as Connor left Achilles to fully help the Patriots. Suddenly, missions started becoming extremely repetitive, the plot became more and more concerned with shoehorning Connor as the unsung hero of every major conflict during the Revolution, you start to realise that side activities hardly unlocks anything, crafting is meaningless, the homestead (while a great way to expand on Connor's character) was a mess of subplots that don't have a proper place in the grand scheme of things, you move to New York where the game had even worse performance while looking even more empty, etc.

AC3 is frustrating because you just know the 12.12.12 deadline fucked up the entire project. The devs just couldn't finish more than half of the things they implemented so the whole game feels extremely half-baked. It's such a goddamned shame, I almost wish they could go back, remaster this game and actually finish it.

2nd worst AAA game I've ever played behind Dragon Age Inquisition. Didn't this game basically kill the series? I think the sales dropped for every assassin's creed game to release after 3. I know syndicate wasn't even a top 10 seller for the year, it came out, which is pretty abysmal for an AAA ubisoft release. Origins will probably be the final nail in the coffin.

It's better than the first and Syndicate. That's not exactly high praise though. Still, it improved the combat, the movement, and created the ship minigame that spawned two full titles. It's not the dogshit people pretend it is but it's still one of the worst entries in a franchise that has its fair share of low quality games.

Bretty gud but hardly the best of the series that some hail it as. I'd rather play Sid Meier's Pirates! for my pirate fix, BF was so half-assed and repetitive to be really enjoyable. It's misleading af and borderline false advertisement. Non gameplay trailers should fuck off unless they can do it very well like the Halo 3 believe trailer.
>>
>>386368580
To be fair, the first is by far the worst with gameplay and did not age well. I love the setting, how each city feels unique, and how fucking dark it got at times, but it's extremely clunky and repetitive. 2 makes enormous improvements to pretty much all of the weaknesses of the first. I'm not saying Ubisoft open world games are amazng but the Ezio trilogy is the high point of the series, if you get a chance to play it cheap I'd highly suggest doing so.

>>386368552
Usually praised by nu-anons who didn't play 2 or Brotherhood. It's an average pirate and assassin game but people have a serious "muh shanty songs!" boner for it.

When was the last time you actually played the first one? It's literally a tech demo, which seems to be the way Ubisoft work: They release a tech demo and then polish it up with a genuine good game like AC2 then release another tech demo like AC3 then follow it up with a good game like AC4.

So what's the general opinion on Syndicate? I enjoy it myself and I would keep playing it if it didn't run so horribly on my PC. It's far from the best Assassin's Creed game but the era it represents is enough for me to keep playing it. Also, Evie is a cutie.

and if you want some good criticism, for me they should focus more (like the biggest portion of the gameplay) on the freerunning/parkour mechanics that made the franchise successful in the first place, and not just some 'keep button pressed to do cool looking thing until you are on top of the tower' bullshit

wants to be a pirate game and an assassins creed game. They shouldve dropped the AC branding and story elements and just go full on the pirate stuff.

>>386368580
AC2 improved A LOT
>>
>>386368954
>It's an average pirate game
You're full of shit. There's next to no other pirate games to begin with. It has some of the best sailing in a game with that kind of gameplay. It doesn't matter if you drum up some some flaw with the pirate gameplay because it has no competition to top it and probably won't for years.
>it's an average assassin game
People like it because they can just ignore everything assassin and go be a pirate.
>>
>>386370724
Rogue is an expansion pack for 4 being sold on its own, it's short as fuck.
>>
>>386360476
god that trailer was great
I wasn't expecting anything groundbreaking because it was just a ubisoft game, it was good for an AC game
Never understood everyone jizzing over the naval combat, it was good but not so incredible that the next entry should have it as a main focus
4 was what really turned me off of AC games and ubisoft in general
>>
>>386360608
o shet dood go play the ones with ezio
they're great

Sid Meier's Pirates! came out in 2004 and is a much better pirate game than BF. Still holds up to this day too.
>>
>>386375413
You were a dumb kid so it's all good. I was an adult when the first two came out and was experienced enough to know the games were terribly outdated within their own genre so the fact they were billed as like a technological marvel infuriated me. To this day I haven't met a single adult that enjoyed the series.

WHAT DID YOU DO ANON?
YOU HAVE BROUGHT RUIN TO OUR GAMES!
>>
>>386376328
Pirates! barely has any real sailing mechanics and it's far from being an action game, it's more like a pirate management game. The only thing I can think of that comes close to Black Flag is an old gmod game mode called Pirate Ship Wars.
>>
Anyone interested in playing Unity coop on PC? I still play it from time to time but I've never touched the coop, there's simply no one to play with.

More like Sid Meier's Cuckolds
>>

>there isn't much shit floating around in this toilet, but the logs I do get to eat are great!
Not a great argument, just because there aren't many pirate games doesn't make BF any better.
>>
>>386376203
it may be short, but dicking around the seas and rivers was great
the legendary naval battles in rogue are the apotheosis of naval combat as far as videogames go

>>386376369
I was 21 wen ACII came out and enjoyed it, and its two sequels, thoroughly
I guess we have different tastes, to each its own

turns out humans were the slaves of super humans and they stole the mindcontrolling appels. The earth got nuked by a solar flare, humans lost most of their knowledge and everything became a myth. People found the items over the years and became powerful people (like atilla with his sword of mars, or the pope). At 2012 another solarflare would hit the earth and they had to activate some God temples to activate the shields. This however also powered the prison of the evil goddess juno so juno broke free and lives in the internet (long story) and the earth averts crisis
>>
>>386376513
Yeah but it definitely has more depth in the pirating aspects, despite being a series of minigames in the conflict department. I do agree with you though, BF does the action bits better than Pirates does. I was really hoping that Skull & Bones game would have been an a combination of both BF and Pirates! What a fucking letdown that was.

>Also, Evie is a cutie.
she is super cute but her plot induced retardation really sucks. She and jacob were a great pair but instead of talking with eachother for 1 second they constantly fuck up and then bitch at eachother. Why doesnt jacob run any of his plans by evie? Why doesnt evie ever ask jacob for backup? No idea, they just stay away from eachother and then get mad when they have issues to the point they want to separate.

And then evie gets POOed instead of going for wincest

Oddly apt though considering AC3, BF and Rogue did have some pretty bad clipping weaponry.

To be able to view the life of someone through the Animus, you gotta have a DNA sample of someone who is a direct descendant of the person you are looking into. In AC: Syndicate, you play can play as both of the twins.

They definitely fucked and had a baby, unless they changed the rules for DNA memory while I wasn't looking.
>>
>>386377173
Yes, it's more focused on naval stuff and the mechanics were improved a lot.
>>
>>386377173

beware of the twenty minute long unskippable cutscene at the start that nobody talks about for some reason tho
>>
>>386368552
Great pirate game, terrible Assassin's Creed game. That simple.
>>
>>386377319
i thought they made it so you could play the memories of other people as an excuse to make not-ubisoft selling asscreed games in asscreed.
>>
>>386377319
I think the fact they are twins or something made you able to revisit both their memories. Or offspring of jacob fucked that of evie years down the line and you got some connection that way
>>
>>386377319
they changed the rules, from ACIV onward you just need a dna sample to access anyone genetic memories
>>
It was alright in some parts, and then terrible in other parts. Also fuck the underground tunnels.
>>
>>386377463
>>386377549

The DNA sample can be viewed by anyone, but it has to come from someone with both twins as their ancestor.
>>
>>386377705
maybe they have different genetic samples and they just patched them up in a single experience/story

also
>expecting consistency from ubishart

The underground tunnels kind of spooked me so I just avoided them altogether.

What the fuck was even the point of these? I forgot all about them after the mission they introduced the concept to us. Was it supposed to be fast travel? Because I kinda recall that the game still had regular fast travel anyway.

In brohood you could use eaglevision and see her footprints being red. Still I found it rather stupid some templar becomes an assassin but then converts back into the templars. Felt very forced to get desmond in a coma.

>>
>>386379681
death doesn't matter in asscreed because cyber ghosts are canon. i don't get why ubisoft hasn't done anything with that, selling immortality would be a lot more profitable than using the animus to make video games.
>>
>>386359404
3 was so bad i couldnt face completeing it............. terrible maps, terrible story, unexplained and needlessly complex trading system..........tacked on sailing..............garbage, boring garbage
never bought another AC game again after that

Who else died more in Unity than every other game in the series combined?

I was going for full stealth gear, and left health upgrades for last, and the very milisecond combat started there was always some asshole drawing his one/two-hit kill gun. I would love the harder combat if not for the gun/flashbang spamming.

Yeah, it was extremely punishing because in a fight a soldier would back out and draw his gun to fuck you up. While it could feel cheap it actually made it an option to avoid combat. In older games I didnt feel bad for tripping an alarm because I could just rape them all with my million tricks (smokebombs alone allow you to cut down a small army while they are stunned). In unity putting in the effort of stealth at least meant you didnt have a realistic chance of getting your brains aired out
