My point is 3d models look better than sprites, they have more detail and more can be done with them including alternate costumes. Anime sprites being some of the worst, since they have low level of detail and choppy animation. Compare to any game using 3d models, anime sprites just don't compare.

I am just trying to learn basics of fightan in general and GGXrd - always liked GG. Tried some SF which is fine too but I dunno. GG Xrd to me is technically most amazing games to come out in a while - it is amazing how 2D the 3D looks, and just with some Unreal 3 and even on PS3

The game was actually bashed for its graphics because other fighters were transitioning to 3D at the time.

SF IV does not look that good. Most currently 2D sprite based games are that way Because it was just easier to make aesthetically pleasing games with 2D sprites - with PS3 and all.

SF IV looks okay, as it has very heavy stylization but it is very dated in look. SF V looks fine but it also loads very, VERY slowly for a 2D fighting game on PS4 (slowest fightan loads after Tekken 7) so where it looks good visually is being paid off heavily in other areas, unlike one another similar enough game; Guilty Gear Xrd which has a great balance between technically good looking 3D and saving resources enough to be able to run even on a potato some call PS3, and loads in fine time too.

It is pretty silly to fuck on sprites. Look at screenshots of KOF XIV vs. XIII and tell me which one looks better?
What shading in KOF XIII looks too good to be 2D? Half true: Since Blazblue/KOF and maybe some other games are actually rhotoscoped 3D models - do tell why they used rhotoscoping instead of just the 3D models they already had?
Except for the fact they had to draw some parts on each sprite like fine details and faces.


TL;DR:
You do not even have fucking idea about this genre you claim to know some revelation about.

And I do not even play this genre, I am a helpless casual who looses to the worst player in local meetups.

I liked that few games tried the GG thing after Xrd, but most of them fail with animation or other areas. Also heavy pixelation in PS3 versions etc.

Lazy animation job because they did not want to do each individual frame for the 3D model like Xrd guys just make it interpolated that won't look jarring with very 2D like shading and models at all.

People who wanted to mod interpolation back into Xrd when it came on PC need to play some fucking Koihime fightan or whatever that Tomy artist's Sega fightan was that came out couple of years back and was bad minus excellent art rips you could do by just pirating the PS3 version - all the 2D assets were just JPEG or PNG files. I think I mentioned lazily made somewhere...
