Don't have any 2cool stories, but lemme help this thread stay up by reposting this good ol' rookie guide.

If you want a smooth start with STALKER trilogy, Consult this Starting Guide,
then see the /vg/'s huge Stalker General for more tips and links: >>>/vg/stalker

Play in the release order. Start with no mods - only latest patch, OR get the full "Starter Pack" first; these contain bug-fixers and light visual mods that can help performance as well.
Leave big overhauls for later playthrougs. Avoid the "Complete" -mods. Always play on MASTER difficulty for best realism and atmosphere, and disable crosshair.

Don't give up in the beginning! The starting gear sucks ass and first area can be a bit boring.

Stop being such an ADHD faggot.
Patched vanilla are all you NEED, together with Master difficulty of course. And the mods' installation process is literally just unpacking them into game's folder, or running their installer exes that do it for you.

I can't even play vanilla ever again after experiencing it with mods.

>walk up to loner to execute him jihadi style
>fucking bloodsucker runs right infront of me, kills wounded loner and cloaks and dissapears into wheatfield
>don't know what the fuck I just saw so I blindly start spraying into it's general direction
>i turn around after calming down to loot the bandits first when suddenly

OK, Doing it now!
This file's last saved in mid-2010, so the original Stalker boom was still alive and well
Not all the stories were (yet) in greentext, but in traditionally written form:

"Playing Oblivion Lost 2.2 (yeah, I know), arrived to the Ap. Research Institute area. Stalkers are under attack and I have to help them. I only got a Bandit jacket, I sold the cheat-suit right in the beginning this time. :)

I sprint to the factory and start popping some army heads with my rifle. Everything goes well, but I notice that the personnel-in-the-area counter going down rather fast. Cool, maybe my AI bros actually know how to aim this time around!

So it gets quiet very quickly, and I'm supposed to escort the Mole to the sewer entrance. I take the regular route, that goes through that tunnel-like section. The backyard is filled with bodies. I manage to take only couple steps towards the stairs that lead to the Mole's current hideout, when I hear the already familiar "panting". A frigging bloodsucker, out in the daylight, way before the first official "meeting"!

So I got startled and start backing away, firing at the floaty eyes that already managed to bite a chunk out of me. But in that instant I realize that there's not only one, but actually THREE PAIRS of floating shiny optics bouncing towards me! The first one got me by surprise, so I'm now low on HP and pathetically backtracking while trying to reload my gun. One of the three runs past me, and starts pummeling me from behind, making me a open buffet for the rest of the pack. Nothing could save me anymore, Mole is left alone inside the factory. While watching the Game Over screen, I see the three suckers leave my body alone, cloak up and run away. That instant a blowout starts, which I decide to watch all the way to the end since there's nothing that can harm me now.

As the beautiful red storm passes, everything is quiet. Marked One is glaring at the sky with the other fallen brethren around him."

Next story, and this is a long one:

(Part 1)

"Playing STALKER for the first time
>Haven't done nearly enough random exploration, if only because the story has me hooked and I wanted to see where it led me.
>Eventually get to Red Forest and manage to escape that damn laboratory and its Poltergeists with my life and most of my ammo intact.
>Backtrack through the forest and zone out, thinking that I might finally be able to return to an inhabited area and get some much needed rest.
>I LOAD INTO A FUCKING WARZONE

At first I see what appears to be a heated battle between a few struggling Duty soldiers and a massive band of raiders. I could tell it was Duty at the time because they were actually using cover properly and sniping like pros, but as I cowered out of sight the patter of gunfire grew fainter and fainter until it died out altogether.

But only for a moment.

After the briefest of lulls, just when the raiders thought they had bested the worst of their enemies, the mutants came. A horde of Flesh charged into the labyrinth of dessicated cars and scrap metal like the hounds of hell were after them, lashing out at everything that came too close and ignoring the hailstorm of bullets in their panic. And hounds there were indeed, what looked to be at least three packs of the fuckers all yipping and howling and tearing into the raider's ranks with savage fury.

As you can imagine, I was scared shitless. Somehow poltergeists seemed like a very distant concern, and the danger in front of me was all too real. For a moment I pondered zoning back into Red Forest and taking my chances with the radiation, but the whole bloody conflict held me transfixed, rooted to the spot behind cover.

And that's when I realized that the dogs were not the hunters, but the hunted..."

...
(PART 2)

" I only got the briefest glimpse of them at the top of the hill, three black licks of charcoal silhouetted against a hazy sun before they disappeared into three sets of hateful eyes that charged down the embankment towards the overwhelmed raiders. It was a slaughter unlike anything I could have dreamed of, and at the back of my mind I realized that none of it could have possibly been pre-programmed. Through a sheer freak accident, I had wandered into Hell.

For what it's worth, the Raiders put up more of a fight than I would have expected from the spineless cowards. I almost found myself sympathizing with the poor bastards. They weren't trained soldiers. If anything, I had more in common with them than the men of Duty, scavenging whatever I could from bodies and the surrounding landscape. And I wouldn't wish a bloodsucker on anyone, let alone -three- of them.

Most of the Flesh and the occasional boar had since been killed early on or shrieked off into the encroaching night, all too eager to get to safer ground. Maybe I should have followed them. With the dogs slowing their movements and nipping at their heels, the Raiders couldn't quite work up any sort of solid defense against their invisible attackers. Flesh was rent like tissue-paper, and once again the crack of gunfire was beginning to shudder and fade on out.

And that's when my screen began to quake...

It took me a moment to realize why the ground was shaking, probably because the idea of things getting any worse was so laughably absurd that I didn't want to believe it. But there they were, two damnable pseudogiants rumbling down into the chaos like the tail end of some hideous parade, knocking aside the few humans that had managed to cling on to life like ragdolls.

I was the only one left..."

(Part 3)

"And yet still I crouched, as though my legs had been cemented to the cracked pavement and my hand to the keyboard. I hadn't been spotted yet, and it seemed as though the giants and the bloodsuckers had no more love for one another than they did for humans.

But the dogs came first.

Up until this point the whining of wild dogs had filled me with a sort of pride, because I knew they were scared of my guns and my stride and too chickenshit to intimidate me. But now the chorus of whimpering howls just seemed horrific and saddening, as each one in turn was hunted down, gutted, and swatted aside like so much trash.

And there it was. The end of this little freakshow was finally in sight. A showdown of Biblical proportions, and here I was to witness every last second of it. I don't know if giants and bloodsuckers normally go at it so readily, and to be quite honest I don't much care. I wondered how such a thing could have possibly occurred. Who in this fucked up mess had kicked things off? The giants? The bloodsuckers? The dogs? Hell, even the innocent herd of Flesh could have stumbled upon something they shouldn't have. Or maybe it was all the noise from the fight between the Raiders and Duty that roused all these hellish monstrosities and riled them up into a frothing madness..."

(FINAL PART)

"...
I could scarcely keep my eyes on the Bloodsuckers, as fast and invisible as they were, and eventually had to watch where the pseudogiants were looking just to keep track of their movements. They worked in tandem, as I'd experienced all too many times before, rushing in to slice at their enormous foes before rushing off again and out of sight. It was like watching mosquitoes pick at an elephant's hide, but after a time it became apparent that the mosquitoes were winning.

One of the Bloodsuckers caught a jab in the side, and his form suddenly become visible and limp as it slopped wetly to the ground. As if spurred on by their kin's death, the remaining two went in at once and managed to strike a fatal blow on one of the giants, toppling the behemoth alongside the other bodies.

I shant bore you with any more details, but suffice it to say that the other giant fell in turn, but not before another Bloodsucker was claimed by its massive claws.

Two survivors. Me and an unholy abomination of tentacles and invisible death. But my paranoia had paid off, and I went unseen. Though tired and battered, it crouched down to feast or inspect its prey.

And so, with the patience of a saint and the silence of an owl in the night sky, I stalked behind it, leveled my shotgun, and blew its brains out across the pavement.
Yet somehow, standing there amongst the mountains of corpses, I felt no sense of accomplishment. Just exhaustion, and a great weight.

And that's all."

next, some random greentext stories dated 2011:

"Let me tell you why STALKER is the best game EVUR:

>Going back from gathering artifacts, crossing the garbage zone at night, under the most awesome storm the Zone has ever witnessed.
>I see a camp on the left of the road, between some old building debris. There are several bandits there having dinner and sharing stories. The morons don't light a fire and I can only hear their voices in the dark.
>I think 'fuck' and quickly lay on the grass on the other side of the road. My armor doesn't have night-vision and I can't turn on my light since that would reveal my position.
>Suddenly lightning blasts the sky, wich allows me to see for a second all those fuckers standing there under the rain.
>I ready my TOZ rifle with some hunting precision bullets. I wait, laying on the mud next to a rock.
>Lightning strikes again, I aim quickly and take one of those sons of bitches down in one shot.
>I reload while the bandits start yelling in the dark, scared.
>Next lightning, I see them clear just for half a second, and that's all I need to take another down.
>Fuckers can't see me, they yell and run confused.
>I take all down eventually. I take a shot of vodka to warm me up and gather all the ammo from their guns before going back to the road.

"AMK - stealing NPC:

One day I noticed a couple assault rifles and an artifact were missing then some time later a news bulletin popped up about a guy selling the same assault rifle I'm missing. After looking in his inventory, sure enough there was the other assault rifle and the artifact. But I wasn't about to pucker up my buttcheeks a let that guy fuck me over even the tiniest amount of ruble so I plotted to kill him.

Unfortunately, he hangs around the Bar so killing him will make everyone there hostile to me. Luckily, he's an NPC scripted to go to Army Warehouses at some point. Though it still wasn't a straightforward job; he hangs around some neutral stalkers in that area and I wouldn't want to hurt my reputation with them.
So I headed to the farthest possible point in that map from where I can snipe him, waited for the sun to come down, slapped my scope and silencer on my AK, and killed him in one shot. I would have had to run over to where he was before the other stalkers could loot him to get my stuff back but at that point, I realized that I didn't really give a damn about my loot anymore and just wanted that fucker dead so I just let the unsuspecting stalkers loot my loot off his dead body.

After that I casually walked up to the stalkers and had dinner with them around the campfire."

I shot at him as much as I could manage, but I took one or two hits from him before I could find cover. Not wanting to risk ducking my head out, but knowing he was almost dead as well I emptied a mag at a steel support to try and bounce it towards him before he walked up to me.

Another lengthy one:

(PART 1)

"Holy schnikes, /v/. 2 days ago I experienced the most immersive, exciting, and fun events in all my time spent playing STALKER:
I was playing Shadow of Chernobyl, and I decided that it was time to go for the documents at the Cordon's military base, but I wanted to do it without going Rambo on the whole place like a shithead.

I donned my Monolith suit, my AN-94 Abakan (as a last resort), my silenced Walther P99 chambered in .40 Smith & Wesson, and 20 armor piercing .40 shells. I left at 11 PM after resting up, and the night was black as it could have been, a rainstorm pummeling the ground. I grabbed my P99 and strode to the edge of the rookie camp. If I failed, it was their lives on the line. I flicked on my night vision and began crawling to the other side of the road, sneaking around trees as I watched the evening patrol head back to base. Perfect timing. I kept sneaking, discovering minefields on either side of the road. I managed to make it up to the wall to the left of the road leading inside, the only entrance. I leaned around the corner to check out the gateway, discovering two sentries behind a line of sandbags, flashlight beams locked onto the road. With LURK's stealth mechanics, I was out of their sight... "

(PART 2)

"... I checked the ammo on my P99 and realized that the nearer guard would need to die for me to make it in unseen. I raised my pistol, shooting one round into the side of his head from about 20 feet away. The other guard yelped, retreating to the barracks. I retreated to the corner, out of sight from all potential enemies inside the base, and waited. I heard and saw nothing, so I progressed. I rounded the corner and saw the door to the Captain's office ajar. Sneaking in, I turned off my NVGs, the dim light of his lamp keeping the small room lit. The Captain himself strolled around the corner, his AKM at his waist, and before he glanced to see me I had leveled my ironsights and put a round through his right eye.
He dropped silently, and I dragged his body into an unlit corner, moving to his office and investigating, finding no such valued documents. I slipped into a dark corner, NVGs back on, and investigated the yard. There was a unit of Spetsnaz across the road, and near the barracks, a unit of grunts. I watched one man without a headlamp run by the doorway and assemble himself in the corner. I grabbed my knife, sneaking up to him and slitting his throat. I bolted over to the corner of the barracks' exterior, accidently tripping some brush.

They knew my general location now. P99 in hand, I awaited their siege. One man was aiming at the bush, headlamp blaring white light, and I extinguished it with a round to his forehead. His comrade darted 5 feet in front of me, looking to the side of where I was as if he had seen me, yet was not quite sure. He should have thought faster, because I dug the my knife into his throat, his screams muffled by the rain. ... "

(PART 3)

"Now I fled my pursuers, crawling beneath the sight of the windows of the barracks as I grabbed an RGD-5 grenade. I peered into the sleeping area, and two men lay on their sides, drowsily neglecting the assault. I tossed it inside, and before they could get themselves up it exploded, killing them both. I sprinted now, getting to the other side of the barracks and situating myself in the outhouse.

I reloaded my P99 with more armor piercing rounds, creeping along the side of the barracks and keeping my eyes peeled for anyone who may get between me and the documents. Getting behind a tree, I heard some Ukrainian being spoken. A man with no headlamp ducked into a corner, looking scared. He didn't see me coming as I shot a round that painted the wall behind him a thick red. I heard some of his bones break from the impact as he bled out on the grass of the yard. Now, I ran into the barracks, grabbing the documents.

It was time to make my leave. I didn't want any more people to die, but if they trailed me to the rookie camp, more blood would be spilt. I made sure the path was clear before bolting to the iron staircase that led to a post above the wall. I leapt over the wall, landing roughly on my feet and starting my run to the rookie camp. I was hailed by the sight of a rookie, PPSh in hand, soaked by the rain. I did not run to Sidorovich's, handing over the documents. He paid me in full, and I spent some of the money on a bed to sleep in. I awoke at 0600 hours, emerging from the shelter to a sunset that blared behind clouds to the East.

The rookie camp was untouched, and there was the patrol of 3 men pacing along the road. It was likely my imagination, but they seemed to not dare come as close to the camp as they usually did. "
