Ashley was surprisingly justified in ME1. Hard to argue that you should get along with all aliens when Turians spent years genociding humans after first contact before the other races cared to step in. She was even religious and it wasn't made fun of. It's honestly not even a very big bonus; Focus at least is useful for the attack bonus for a non-Soldier/Guardian character, but I'd only take it after taking all the attack feats I wanted.

I agree. I'l admit, I like KotOR I's story - it's interesting to touch upon the idea of a 'true self', and it allows you some great moments towards the end of the game (light and dark). I even enjoyed how they portray Malak as essentially a follower who lucked into his position, which is why he's so clueless about what to do and how to act. It doesn't even compare to II's writing, though... but without the contrast, we wouldn't appreciate it as much.

I kind of disagree with Kreia on Revan. I do believe that he genuinely fell as a result of his actions during the mandolarian wars. Kreia herself even states something along the lines that each atrocity Revan order during the war drifted his followers closer to the dark side until malachor v happened which no one save the exile walked away from.
But yeah. Its great writing. Certainly better than "lol, Revan and Malak were corrupted by the sith emperor to serve as his vanguard".

Peragus is far more annoying to replay, though. It's all about the mystery of what's going on and I KNOW what's going on because I've already done it. The actual mechanics of it are pretty dull and boring, whereas Taris is mostly just another level that you can enjoy about as much as anything else you're replaying.

Peragus wins first time through though.

Atton's thing is that he /hates/ the Jedi - he fought as a Republic soldier and saw their hypocrisy in that it was only Revan who came to the defence of the Republic, and the Jedi Council condemned him for it. Hypocrisy and Atton's hatred of it is one of the biggest themes in his character arc (along with cowardice).

He was trained to become an assassin of Jedi, killing them or torturing and breaking them and turning them to the Sith cause, and he excelled at it - he explains it to you, taking advantage of their bonds and weakening them by wounding and killing their friends and allies, hitting them from stealth and with poison as much as possible. This continues until eventually Atton targets a female Jedi who shows him why he's so good at killing and torturing them - because he's Force Sensitive himself. Where the Exile had to make the choices that determined the war, Atton blindly followed - until he was in a situation where he could no longer choose blind loyalty, and then he ran. This is how you can convince him to be trained in the Force, too - either by telling him that in this he has found his redemption, or by convincing him that what he did doesn't matter.

It's also interesting to note that it was the Exile's own decision at Malachor that helped shaped Atton, so you are partially responsible for how he is. It's the same with all of your human party members, but in particular all the Force-sensitive ones, and one of the best parts of the game thematically - you're already connected to them by your actions before the game. One person's decisions, echoing out across the Galaxy.

1) Luke actually was straight up better. He had more potential then Vader. This is kind of how the EU took it with Luke just being crazy powerful even with his limited training. Even in canon this is currently hinted at with Obi-wan claiming that Luke is actually the chosen one.

2) Luke started giving in to the dark side and used that to defeat Vader who simply wasnt prepared for that raw aggression. I believe this is was GL was going for.


Personally I like to think it was 1 because I never cared for Anakin and prefer the idea of Luke as the chosen 1 even though I know its suppose to be Anakin.

KOTOR will always be my favourite Star Wars game. There were so many memorable thins about it and it really did feel like the best WRPG at the time. KOTOR2 is a close second, but too many times it feels like the game was written by a douchebag who hates everything about the universe and was blatantly using his OCs to shit on it.

Here's the thing about Jedi fights that work perfectly in the original series.

They have absolutely nothing to do with physical combat, and everything to do with the Force.

In a fight between a Jedi and a Sith, the goal is ALWAYS conversion. The purpose of the fight isn't to kill the opponent, it's to make them so desperate that they switch sides. The fights are the two pushing against each other with the Force, until one of them has a hole the other can exploit.

In the fight in Jedi, both Luke and Vader are pushing against each other in ways that would make them convert. Luke is refusing to fight except in self-defense, forcing Vader to strike at his own son in cold blood to goad out hesitation. Vader is constantly taunting Luke to try and get him to act out in aggression in order to be the hero. And in many ways, Vader wins the fight initially, because Luke reaches out to anger and hatred in order to strike back. He goes on the offensive for the first time in the fight at a moment when Vader isn't expecting it, and as such holds a stronger connection to the Force than Vader.

When he beats Vader this way, he realizes that he lost the fight and surrenders to the Emperor, who then tortures him in an effort to get him to lash out again. Obviously this fails.

The fights in the Original Trilogy are nuanced as fuck.

The fact that he is holding back but Vader isnt walking over him, that it looks like they are evenly match shows how skilled Luke is, that a holding back Luke is staying even with Vader.

Am I the only one who preferred the fixed locations/vendors for items system present in KotOR 1 to the randomized one in KotOR 2?

Randomization has its charms too, but fits better in a roguelike game. In games like KotOR I love to plan my build ahead of time and I just cant do in the same way if the items are random.

The crafting system in KotOR 2 is obviously superior however.
