Crimson assholes start showing up in all the dungeons, so all your guys will inevitably get turbo aids, fanatic starts fucking your shit up, and the only cure is to beat the next, even harder courtyard boss

So yeah, have a good thinking if you can deal with the consequences better than having reduced stress heal every so often before you beat the first coutyard.

This is pretty good advice, although I'd argue Arbalests have a place on the roster, but only in a dedicated marking party. The apprentice level dungeons are as easy as it's going to get, so play around with different party compositions, find out what heroes synergize well, figure out what strategies you like. In general, you want to neutralize and destroy the back row guys first, as they're the ones that are generally doing stress damage, which can add up quick.

Grab an Antiquarian, make sure you run her in the back and have her selected when you interact with curios for loads emone. Throw a MaA or a Highwayman in with her, have her force guard on them with Protect Me! and then have them riposte. And oh yeah, if you see like a red orb on a post, slap a torch in there.

-Be prepared. Minmax everything before you embark into a dungeon.
-Party composition. Check if your party is versatile enough to cover almost every situation and threat.
-Always assume the worst. Understand that enemy crits will happen more and more, and count each one of your own as a blessing.

But anon, lepers are considerably worse than hellions when shuffled. A leper cannot use any of their skills from the 3rd or 4th slot. All they can do is move. The hellion can use If It Bleeds from slot 3, or their self buff from 3 or 4 while another character moves back. She's also got Breakthrough, which attacks and moves her forwards from slot 3, but I'll admit it's not likely to run a hellion with that skill equipped.

I do still keep a leper around, he can hit hard and tank, and that's what he's for, but he's much less versatile than any other character.

Patience is the biggest thing, just because you lose a character or two doesn't mean your estate is doomed. Don't start out with the DLC activated, save it for when you're experienced. You'll also have a much more rewarding experience if you consider what you could have done better, rather than blaming RNG. Sometimes RNG does just fuck you over, its part of the game, but more often than not (especially for a new player) there were things you could have done better which may have saved you.

The characters are easily replaceable, what really matters is progressing with your trinkets, buildings/upgrades, and cash flow.

Your guys WILL get unlucky crit and killed eventually, esp. on the higher difficulties.

I have 200+ hours on the game, I beat it on normal mode, haven't touched it in months. I kinda feel like wanting to replay, or even buy Crimson Court, but all the stuff I've read about the crimson cancer really puts me off. Is it really worth it, or should I just replay the game on radiant/stygian with some mods and without DLC to make it fresh?

I like the DLC. It does kind of overtake the rest of the game, though, but the dungeons it adds are fun (to me anyways- they're long, challenging, best run blind IMO). Flag is cool, the curse is an interesting if underutilized mechanic, districts are nice (rush the bank, do some auntie runs and never worry about money ever again). I really don't see where all the hate came from, unless it's initial reactions before they smoothed some things out (i.e. blood drops).
