Literally couldn't run on... I don't remember what was the deal with AMD cards, it was bad.
Few maps, maps didn't make use of the movement mechanic, it's pretty team reliant so of course it was like herding cats... I forgot the rest.

To me, it was yet another braindead multiplayer shooter that we already had perfected, with a pretty weak splash-damage based combat and it's biggest feature was the "supercustomizable weapons" gimmick that felt completely pointless and already overdone back when this game's hype train was peaking.

Seriously: what made people so hyped up about it? Was I missing something back then? Was it just a thirst for more class-based team based shooters? Was it the developer name?

Back then the dominant shooters were Cod and Halo, and Halo was just finding its feet with customization.

Cod had "Classes" that essentially boiled down to a loadout, and what perks you used, so they were incredibly soft core "Classes". And everyone looked the same. At the time Black Ops 1 coming out, they had a new system in which your primary perk you picked would affect your look and style of your character model, which people went ballistic over.

So imagine a game with actual proper character customization and classes at that time period

Well, the whole "seamless merge of singleplayer and multiplayer in an in instance-based mostly territory-control-oriented multiplayer game" kinda gave that away. They even pretty openly described it from the start, making it clear that mechanically the two would be barely distinguishable.

Another big part of the marketing was that you'd get no one-hit kills, which were ripe in CoD with all the shitty noscope fagkids running around. Of course that proved to be fake as you could stack buffs onto the sniper to turn it into a one-hit kill anyway.

The biggest part of its downfall was, like AC Unity, the bugs. AMD cards literally could not run the game for some time which really hurt the playerbase. The singleplayer friendly AI was also dumb as bricks to try and balance for the player, whilst also being a huge CPU drain as 15 unoptimised bots ran around parkouring and shit.

So almost every part of it was hurt in some way. The parkour was simple with a little depth in that you could chain moves together with the right timing, similar to Jet Set Radio, but then the maps had huge bottlenecks which almost made the parkour redundant. Combat was okay, but then the sniper thing. Singleplayer was just awful all throughout. The only purely good thing about the game was customisation, which was pretty good.

You see Brink's trophies allow you to set up a map with no opponents so anything remotely technical like finishing an objective without being obstructed can just be done by creating a game with no bots or players and you just run through the map.

The game is honestly that broken.
