I only ever play open world RPGs and hack and slash. Doesn't matter if it's thriller, sci-fi, mystery, adventure, whatever.

But as I have grown older I prefer games that have long gameplay and deep story lines

Bait thread, but there are plenty of sub 8.5 games games made for a niche audience and they don't compromise the design to be accessible to the average player with no previous experience in that specific style of game. Rain World would be a recent example.

I use reviews to judge if I should buy a game I may or may not like after looking at the gameplay. I go by steam reviews though, everything else is based on gameplay footage. Steam reviews seem to be mostly reliable outside of games that pander, such as that dad dating sim game. Negative reviews are also more reliable than positive ones.
