Can any actual fans of Pro melee tell me how the healthy the scene is? As far as new blood, the number of tournaments, and prize pools? Will melee have a better and bigger 2017 than 2016?

The scene is doing well. As many people like to think that it's slowly dying, I don't think that a 15 year old game is going to die soon. Despite Nintendo not supporting us, and basically treating us like we don't exist, the community has only grown, and I think it'll continue to grow until something new and better comes out, which probably isn't going to happen.

As long as "the six gods" continue to play the game there will be people and the community with be somewhat healthy. When one or two of them leaves for good, its over. Anything won by anyone else will get disregarded as "he wouldn't have won if X still played" and people will just generally dislike the uprising of the next generation of the best melee players..

most tournaments dont even standardize the game version in the first place, its way easier to get a fuckload of crts, discs and systems than it is to do anything else at this point
which is also why tourney-centric mods havent been standardized despite being fantastic outside of the rare crash

Tier lists mostly focus on results and players get better over time, allowing difficult characters like fox to move ahead of "easier" characters like sheik. Jigglypuff was considered bad until mango started winning tournaments with her and hbox solidified it

If everyone played perfectly, yoshi would be a contender for best in the game with his parry mechanics but only one player (amsa) gets good results with him and of course doesn't use him to his full potential, since that would require inhuman abilities. However, a lot of fox techniques were considered "inhuman" many years ago

The bullshit with the faulty controllers as well, they might insist that the upside of them is really only relevant for the top tier players but it is a pretty goddamn significant advantage. I want to see what happens when actual sparcity sets in for them

Jiggs at 5 is a joke. How long does Hbox have to consistently dominate every non-fox before we concede that you can't just theorize your way to victory. Jiggs is obviously the second best character to main at top level in the current metagame and if she had equal player representation to Falco, it would be obvious. I also think Sheik has been overrated for quite some time. Maybe she's still 5th, but definitely not in the same tier as Falco or even Marth and the fact that Peach has better spacie matchups makes them closer to one another than to Marth/Falco. Falcon is also better than IC. IC have an awful time against everybody above them, but Falcon at least has the tools to deal with Marth and Peach and even Falco to some extent.

People said the same thing about Ken and Azen and the first generation of top players. Its a bit different now because the game is like 99% discovered and most every mechanic that is possible to consistently implement is used in top level play, but melee is driven by fanboyism and so long as there are top level players who don't play totally lame, it will be okay. People will always have their johns about what might have been, but unless Armada hangs it up before somebody starts winning majors consistently, that won't be much an issue.

Fox is the best character in the game but not by that much. Falco and Marth go even with him and most of the top tier can fuck him up with a good opening.

Peach/Marth is infinitely worse than Sheik/Marth and their spacies matchups are about even. Puff and Falcon are also much worse for Peach.

you can escape is grabs but he stays in animation
hes easily kept of stage
his combos are short and very low damage
and his normals are dog shit, their "quick" but very short and never really cover anything

As somebody who actually goes to their locals and shit for Pokken, Braixen is certainly at least top 3.

She's as good a zoner as some zoner's in some other fighting games, and she's good up close too. She can get her support bar filled like 6+ times a round, and can cancel into her support in ways other characters can't. She gets meter at a decently fast rate too. Personally, I think Lucario is a bit better, but there's litterally no disputing that she's top 3 and most people agree she's the single best.

But the entire cast is still viable even at the highest level of play.
