Yeah, no shit. I was a wreck for 5 years, and I was her age when he died. On the other hand, my father killed himself, might be a bit more traumatic. Also, people process grief differently. I was basically a zombie for the first 2 years after he died.

In the P3 movies the protagonist is similar to Haru. The hanged man in P4 is also similar to both in lack of grieving for the longest time. Mitsuru out of all people is the one who has a mental shutdown lasting a month. Haru takes a week and that involved the funeral before going back, she's a trooper. Mitsuru should have acted more Haru in retrospect.
