Wacraft is more tactics-based because the scope of the game was brought down compared to Starcraft and the game became more about second-to-second micro and quick intense skirmishes, as opposed to Starcraft which was more about establishing economic dominance and positioning the armies correctly.

WC3 is literally the perfect game, but the online is infested with bots nowadays. The campaign is good but you'll have to join a separate community to get to play custom maps. They usually don't take too kindly to beginners, so be aware.

Starcraft is free now, so you might as well start there.
Warcraft 3 is a fantastic game with a huge storyline and involving, but not impossible or tedious, missions. Might be the best of the lot.
I've honestly never understood Diablo, Diablo II, or the entire genre they inspired. Totally repetitive and lifeless games.

Starcraft 2 is terrible, avoid it like the plague. I would go with Warcraft 3 if you like fantasy and Starcraft if you like gritty space fantasy.

IMO start with Warcraft 3 and its expansion, because it still holds up gameplay wise with current RTS games, and actually has one of the most badass campaign modes (if not the most badass) of any RTS game in existence, including Starcraft/2

I beat Diablo 2 for the first time two months ago. Played it with a friend, and we had a lot of fun running through it. A bit dated controls, but you get used to them.

Warcraft 3 is a RTS classic, and absolutly worth playing through for the story, if you're into Warcraft. The controls are a little bit dated - spcifically the amounts of units you can have selected at the same time, but it should be ok in all other aspects.

Never played original Starcraft.
