>Forever locked out of the other path
>>
name 1 game that does this
>>
>>386329081
happened to me in DaS2 at the dragon mountain, headed left instead of straight so I missed the Emerald Herald giving me the unlimited homeward bone and thanks to that I couldn't finish the crazy assassin's guy quest
>>
>>386329081

I unironically have no problem with games doing this.

For the vast majority of games, you are not forever locked out of that path, because you can always play the game again. If you can't brush off missing something in a game, even if you feel cheated because you went meta and tried to go down the "wrong" path first, it says more to your mental state than bad game design.
>>
>>386330453
Punishing exploration in adventure games is not good game design.
>>
>>386330521

Its not a punishment; you didn't die, you are continuing on your mission of completing the game.
>>
>>386329592
Bioshock 1 and 2
>>
>>386330564
Missing out on something forever is a LOT worth than dying, what the fuck is going on in your head right now?

If you die, it's just a temporary setback. You respawn, and you make your way back to where you died. If you miss out on sweet loot by a point-of-no-return, you can never ever get it.
>>
>>386330564
Missing out on loot and possibly additional content is a punishment and it is shitty design.
>>
>>386330564
Game Over screens are not the only way to punish. Another is denying rewards. In OP's example players who mindlessly use the obvious route are rewarded and players who take time explore are not.
>>
>>386330564
You're baiting right
>>
>>386330606
Are you retarded? Those games both have quest arrows that tell you the right way to go, and so it's impossible to fuck it up when you're trying to explore the whole area before completing the objective.
>>
>>386329592
can I name 2?
>>
>>386329693
she was literally right there in sight, this one is on you

shit constantly

Anyone recognize this shit game?
>>
>>386329592
I'm sure the Metro games do this
>>
>>386331430
Well I know there was an item in Final Fantasy XII that would make itself never drop if you opened the wrong chest or whatever
>>
>>386330453
Going down the hidden path instead of the clear path isn't meta, it's just a decision and you're gambling because at this point there's 50% chance the dev is trying to outsmart you. But anon has a point about autosaving, cutscenes, and linear level design.
>>
>>386331089
Baldurs Gate 2 has so much good loot that it (mostly) doesn't matter if you miss out on a few things.
>>
>>386331430
how do you get in there?
assuming you don't come from the boss room
>>
>>386331594
It seals you in after the boss fight until you either open the important chest or fuck yourself out of getting it.
>>
>>386330641
Play the game again with your new-found knowledge.

>just play the whole game again XD
>>
>>386329081
always go right first.
That´s an easy rule of thumb, because human instinct is to go left, and level designer´s instinct is to make left the main path, so going right makes it statistically likely that you will get more loot.
>>
>>386332090
this is the same as promting the player to save before any decision and reload if the outcome is detrimental = bad game design.
>>
>>386332185
if playing a game is a chore to you, you should either play something different or look for an entirely new hobby in the first place
>>
>>386333159
More like, why waste your time playing a game you already beat, instead of playing a new game.
>>
>>386331430
This would actually be worse if instead of 'shit loot' It was 'marginally ok loot'. If you picked the trap one first then reloaded you'd be tricked into thinking it really was all the reward there is.
>>
I'm not the only one who saw a guy with a curved dick here:
>>386329081
And one bending over here:
>>386331430
Right?
>>
>>386332090
Didn't you just complain about players using meta knowledge?
>>
>>386329592
nuDOOM which is why it's garbage.
>>
>>386334038
No it doesn't.
>>
>>386331430
What game is it?
>>
>>386329081
This is literally the part in FFVII where you fight Proud Clod and have the option to enter Shinra HQ again for loot. Unless you go left first :^)
>>
>>386329081
>Hurr my actions shouldn't have consequences
>>
>>386334038
The weapons you can miss will all be obtained in later levels. You won't ever even know you missed something unless you look it up online.

I don't count miscellaneous collectibles because as far as I'm concerned achievement hunters deserve to get fucked
>>
>>386332767
>because human instinct is to go left
Where did you read that, your ass?
>>
>>386334210
>Hurt I should be miss out on loot for an entire play through because I lost a 50/50
>>
>>386329592
max payne 1
>>
>>386334307
That's because the "missable" things are all secrets, which is the exact opposite of the OP image where the thing that looks like a secret is actually the main path.
But since you can just replay every level individually and the fact they aren't that long means it literally doesn't matter if you miss those secrets, like you said you get the weapons later anyway and it's not like serious sam where getting the weapons early on in a secret makes the levels much easier due to them being designed around you not having those yet.
>>
>>386333159
You really can't admit when you're wrong, can you? You can't be stupid enough to actually believe what you are saying
>>
>>386329592
Final Fantasy X.
>>
>>386329592
Star Fox 64
>>
>>386331430
Destiny?
>>
>>386334432
That's correct.
>>
>>386334432
Git gud, faggot.
>>
>>386330606
You can go back to every area in Bioshock once you get to the bathysphere/tram
