the problem of Risen 3 is that instead of building upon the premises of Risen 2, it's gotten worse. Namely the combat. I get that Piranha Bytes work on low-budget but that's exactly why they should stick with making smaller yet detailed worlds. Instead of 6-7 companions who barely have anything to say, just make it 2 or 3 and make them proper characters

These may have happened to you or you could have just saved them to be salty, but even so they are apparently either patched out or so rare that only a miniscule amount of people get hit by it.

never played original, ending is really meh. I mean the whole game is a victory lap after like level 10 anyway but once you get through the pain in the ass puzzle to enter the temple and fight 3 easy bosses in a row...and that's it, you saved the world, good job. It does take your character's traits in consideration and gives you a little history on what happened after but its like 2 lines and you're done. Props for not sequel baiting at least but I really expected Astarte to really be evil and the reason Source was corrupt

It was fun but the combat got stale after a while. Never really got anything out of upgrading the homestead, assume that it will impact the end game.

It's actually pretty good. It looks fucking great, and the skill system allows you to do goofy stuff like having your ninja in heavy armor or having your tank have high dodge.

EO is still god of Weebzirdry, but SoSS is a pretty good Wizardry clone. It even has a death mechanic and environmental hazards and cursed equipment, so it's closer to Wizardry than EO.

I'm a sucker for fully customizable party based RPGs like the Icewind Dale series. Any recent/upcoming game that matches the description?

Already bought Div: OS 1 and 2. They're good but there's still a bit missing. I think having 4 party members max doesn't feel enough, I'm so used to having 6 party members and the insane amount of different customizations there was in IWD.

Surely everyone here can agree that expansion packs should add content through a separate campaign. Adding content in the middle of the game is ridiculous.

PoE expansions scale with your in-game progress. They can be completed both mid-game and during the end-game and they will still be challenging as fuck. I think it's better than just dumping a new campaign on the player, since integrating new content into the game gives you more freedom where to go during the mid-game. A good example of this Night of the Raven expansion for Gothic 2. I think PoE expansions did pretty much everything right.

kingdom come looks pretty lame. it fell for the 'cryengine means our game will look good' meme yet the character and facial animations look shit. there is also the problem of first person melee always turning into a fucking clusterfuck as soon as you introduce more than one opponent. and the general lack of enemy variety, you'll be fighting the same people the entire way through the game.
also what is it with these retarded 'big' kickstarter games hiring celebrities to do voice acting? lot of wasted money there in my opinion.

Those options have nothing to do with roleplaying, though, because none of them apart from 3 instances depend on how you've built your character. A Lawful Good Paladin can fucking kill the silver dragon (inherently Good creature), drain its blood and construct and wear the armor of human flesh, because there are no consequences to (almost) any of your actions or choices in the game and none of the alternative quest solution methods depend on how you've built your characters.

Visual novels have way more ways to progress in various situations due to abundance of general C&C, yet nobody calls them RPGs. You know why? Because none of your character building and advancement decisions matter at all (there's usually no building or advancement in the first place), but Visual Novels at least offer the player consequences to his choices (still doesn't make them RPGs). BG games, on the other hand, offer almost no consequences to anything and have no character build requirements for completing quests in certain ways, they only have an illusion of choice, where meaningless choices are given to the player in an attempt to obfuscate the complete linearity of the game.

Any sort of critical examination f these games exposes them for the trash they are, but kids still meme on about them being "good", because they have very little experience in the genre and think that any of the 1997-2002 RPGs are good by definition.
