Definitely. The lead dev seems like a pretty cool guy and definitely has a vision for this game. Updates are pretty sparse but they do land eventually and always bring new features or content with them.
It refuses to hold your hand at all though, so prepare to be shit for a few hours, get lost/stuck, and spend time drawing maps.

Probably not. People might get some neat killing sprees or some super long distance zero grav kills with the Gunslinger, but the game, while fun, won't offer things as crazy as the very niche stuff you can find in Overwatch. And the novelty of getting a lucky kill on someone by shooting behind you will wear out in approximately the very first webm you see of it.

Update will overhaul the early story levels, add npc dialogue, more interesting AI system with a sort of role system, COMPANIONS so you don't need to carry that fucking torch everywhere, and I believe new levels.
Very soon after we will have ranged weapons and early forms of Thaumaturgy, starting with "mind" which is apparently needed in the story.
Eventually we might see multiplayer, though it would likely be LAN only, and limited to 2 because physics memes.

Game is Exanima. I would say it's worth it for the experience, it's not like anything you've played before. With that in mind, there's not a lot to it right now. Kinda novel. The devs are keeping up with communication, so that's a good sign that there's more to come. Should be seeing a ramp up in development after they get this next update out (hopefully sometime in August.)

Then again, you might just leave it on the backburner for now and keep an eye on it.

While I will admit the movement can be a little weird to get used to, actually learning this games swinging mechanics is rewarding as fuck, and not even hard once you get the hang of it

Playerbase is somewhat small but dedicated. A lot of fans of "old school" rpgs and people sick of hand holding games.
I don't know whether comparing it to a roguelike is really useful but that's probably the closest of the two. There are skills that you can unlock by gaining experience, which you get by killing enemies, reading books and scrolls, and finding rare items.
Most of the gameplay is finding better equipment early on, trying to avoid fights. Later on you'll be more confident but the enemies you face become more dangerous and hostile. There are a couple of bosses and puzzle mechanics here and there.
