I have a set of HD598s, and Cloud X II. The clouds aren't bad for the price. Not an amazing mic, but nice for when I go to a lan, don't have to drag a retarded boon and AT2020 with me.

Just got Sennheiser HD 598 SR last week and I'm loving them. Sound quality is fantastic, positional audio beats any other headphones I've used, and they're comfy as fuck. I legitimately forget I'm wearing them sometimes, but that could just be because the headphones I had before were terrible. I won't say they're the best since I haven't tried many others but I'm extremely happy with them. Heartily recommend, they're great for games, music, movies, whatever.
>>
>>386314859
Damn, almost everyone that I know that owns them say the same thing, I was skeptical since theyre pretty cheap. Might have to try them out.
>>
>>386315296
Yeah I saw them recommended everywhere online and decided to just go with them, they're fantastic. My only regret is waiting so long to order some, I could have gotten the limited edition ones for $170 or so new but they're $300+ now.

The comfort alone was worth the price. Sounding great, of course, is good too.
>>
>>386316427
Exactly, maybe it's not so critical for someone who's not as much of a neet but if I'm sitting here with headphones on my head for 12+ hours a day then they better be comfy. They are.
>>
>>386316427
How loud can you go with these things before you blow them out? I like my video games really fucking loud.
>>
Siberia steel series is actually not bad. Customer service is nice too. /g/ is a good place to ask since they have an entire thread for this stuff.
>>
>>386316592
I have them hooked to a DAC, so cranking everything is uncomfortably loud, which may be your thing.

I should mention that the 598s don't do bass very well, which suits me fine, might be a deal breaker for others.
>>
SHP9000S with the Vmoda Boom Pro.

That or the HD600.
>>
>>386316794
The headphones general is 50% Sennheiser HD600 recommendations, and 50% trolling with Snapheiser pics.

For good reason
Sennheisers used to snap a lot 10+ years ago
And the HD600 is the best headphone below 500USD
>>
I got some K550s years ago when everyone was hyping them, doubt I'll ever need to buy another pair of headphones.
>>
>>386317239
I've tried both, open back seems to have better sound to me but the obvious downside is that people nearby can hear what you're listening to if it's loud enough. That wasn't an issue for me so I went with open back, I've heard there are good technical reasons to go with those if you care about sound quality but I don't know much about headphone tech.

The headphones will be used for gaming mostly, I have a pair of Audio Technica m50s for music.
>>
>>386319003
Why use two separate pairs? I'm a little confused.

But in terms of gaming I don't think it matters really, the distinctions between open and closed back won't matter much. Most games don't have great sound quality to begin with, probably since most people won't be able to hear it with their shitty "gaming headsets."

Sennheiser HD 419s

Cheap, fine audio since I'm not a retarded audiophile, and came with a free mic.
>>

The m50s I use them out of the house, i have some good speakers, so unless Im voice chatting, i never use headphones. The reason Im looking for high end headphones is because I want to replace the Hyperx Cloud Im currently using.

best 100€ headphones coming through
>>
>>386322228
Open has better soundstage, meaning slightly better ability to hear directions of sounds like footsteps. I prefer closed because I like a sound with no interference from outside noise. Some find open a more natural sound as it is more similar to the way you normally hear (ie including other sounds). It is really personal preference according to how you like to hear and what sort of sound you like.
>>
Redpill me on virtual 5.1/7.1. I know that the headphones that shove a bunch of small drivers in them are dumb and stupid, but virtual surround seems nice. Do I need a special headphones for that or can I just get a sound card and some good headphones and force it through the sound card driver?

I finally settled on a pair of GAME ZERO, super comfy with the leather ear cups instead of those weird velvet things on GAME ONE. It does get hot after awhile tho
>>
>>386322587
I'm using a Kraken USB, wouldn't be worth it at full price, but for half of not that bad.
>>
>>386314859
SR?
What is different about that from the normal 598?
>>
tfw could've got Siberia 800 wireless for $120 but didn't because mic was shit in the reviews. Now I want a 598 + blue yeti combo to trigger elitists.

Is it worth upgrading to actual headphones over a HyperX Cloud I? I want some that are loud that I can also use as speakers, my Cloud I is quiet af.
>>
>>386322606
The leather ear cups are why it gets hot
>>
>>386322714
They are discontinued and replaced with the Sennheier 598 SR, with a minor design change (changed top padding to patch that of the 598 Cs) and has the option to include a mic. Otherwise, it's exactly the same.
>>
>>386323034
ah ok
I was a little disapointed by the padding on the normal 598 when I first got it but it's still okay
I'll be sure to check that out when these break
By option to include a mic do you mean they ditched the 2.5mm bullshit so you don't have to mod it to use an inline?

Too expensive nigga, I was looking for something no more than $60 and after some research I decided the Arctis was probably the best one at that price point.
>>
Got a pair of 558s a while back. Lovin em, but I have a question. Is the sound the same as the 598s? When I was doing research, a lot of places said the sound was the same, but now, i'm finding articles that are saying it's mildly different in a few ways. Whos speaking the truth, here? Is the sound better, or only different?

You would be surprised what something as simple as a thicker piece of foam does to sound signatures.

>padding of the 598 Cs
Well damn. I picked up the 598 Cs because I thought the pads on the 598 looked like shit. Now I feel dumb knowing I could've got the best of both worlds. Oh well, the Cs pads are pretty damn comfy and it's got a nice sound even if not as good.

Get the 900Xs. Same basic design, same comfort. 2000Xs have some of the best highs I have ever heard, blows my ether flows out of the water in that regard. 900Xs definitely don't get there, but they are probably better all rounders.

Wing system makes them feel like you are barely wearing anything, very little clamp. Can wear them for hours and hours without fatigue.
>>
I got this bad boys.
They are super comfortable and the audio quality is perfect. Best thing I like about them is that there is no bass boost or other nigga shit in them, making them perfect to hear sound as the creator intended.
>>
>>386324353
they're not that bad sounding to be honest. nowhere close to top tier cabled headphones but still good. and they're cute
>>
I'm getting kinda tired of resoldering the joints in my tired HD681s so gimme some recommendations under $100 AUD.
>>
>>386324247
Oh well, I can still cancel the Arctis but I'm just going to give them a chance and if they shit the bed then I'll get those.
>>
>>386324503
was on the edge between this and beyers dt770. took the 770 because i really like to hear classic at work and this isnt really the area where the ath shines.
>>
>>386313025
Any in ear monitors. Great audio and they are pretty much made so you can tell where every instrument of the band is. So that property helps in games too to pinpoint the position of all audio.
I am using soundmagic e80 right now. Its really good but the high end is slightly bright, but you can fix that with an equalizer. If ur ok with slightly lower bass but otherwise *perfect* earbuds get soundmagic e30.
>>
hd800 here. i have too much disposable income
>>
>>386324906
The problem with that is I imagine it starts to get uncomfortable a couple hours in, I love my JayBirds X3, but I can't wear them for long periods of time.

Well not really because I take them out when I'm done gaming. I guess if you want to keep your headphones on even if ur not listening to anything then get a headset.

Unironically these bone conduction thingies. You hear everything that's happening outside, but people around you don't hear what's happening in your game. And dat bass, too.
>>
>>386324906
sennheiser ie80 i guess
>>
>>386325281
Can't go wrong with either. 598s have better low end, and more warmth to their sound. But I found them fairly uncomfortable, and they made my ears sweat. Sennheiser clamp is real.

AD900Xs have better high end, and what I would say is a clearer overall sound signature. But you do lose a bit of the low end. Biggest thing is the comfort, the whole line is some of the most comfortable headphones out there.

You have a lot of options outside of these in the $150-$250 range as well.
>>
>>386325404
why would you want to hear anything outside from what you're listening to?
>>
>>386313025
Literally those, the HD429. I've had them since 2012 I think. They're fine but there's almost no fucking bass. Also they're starting to break down rapidly.
>Had to replace the plug
>Plastic covering the cable is coming apart so I have to swap the cable soon
>Headband is loose as fuck, there's no clamping force so the band just sits on your head
>all the plastic covering the pads came apaprt
>earpads split from the seam
I wouldn't even know what to buy if I wanted to buy new ones, I'd probably have to step it up for good and get an amp/dac
