Anyone else here never really understood how the mechanics worked and just grabbed a random chao made all its stats lv 99 even though its growth for every stat was complete shit? I didn't have internet back near GC release and I was a dumb kid to dig at any info the kindergarten area might of had.

I actually managed to brute force all the courses/fights like that, only years later I found out about how to make the different chao types as well as other complex stuff I never expected, I just had a bunch of normal stats and had no idea why one of my hero chaos grew a sprout on his head.

Just give me Super Ultra Chao Garden Gaiden and release it for the Switch already as a stand alone game!

I'd leave it running on my Switch in kickstand mode next to my computer at all times and watch the legacy of Chaos unfold.

If a new Sanic game came out with the Chao system, it would have to surpass the one on SA2 so hard to meet any expectations. The amount of detail, online support, extra hidden shit, AND connections to the actual Sanic game it's attached to would have to be enormous.

The WORST part is that in today's environment, this system would never happen while attached to a Sanic game. Instead, Sega would make it a standalone phone game with only a couple new features, a time/energy system to prolong the process of raising a Chao, a store that works like every other phone game's store, and special events that exist to get more of your money. The entire game would be a cash grab.

I'd love for a new game to get the Chao Garden, but it's just never going to happen.

HOW DOES RAISING THE CHAOS ACTUALLY WORK?
Most of the time I was just winging it giving them items and farming levels for potions until they were good enough to beat the challenges, but never was able to figure out exactly what everything did.

i used to throw and beat my chao whenever they seemed ungrateful or not happy to see me, then when they'd start crying i'd throw and beat them some more because the sound annoyed me
eventually i'd go and my chao would all start running away from me in terror and i'd chase them down and throw and beat them for not loving me
sometimes i'd feel bad and pet one or feed one, and watch it sit and nibble its little orange fruit, but then it would just start weeping silently afterward and i'd throw and beat it for not being happy
eventually one of my chao came to hate me and he'd try to attack me, so i'd throw and beat him and starve him
then one day one of my chao sat down and went to sleep and disappeared and i kept trying to stop him, i felt regret for everything i'd done but it was too late, so i fed the rest of my chao and stopped playing

You give them animals to raise specific stats, each stat will increase at level up according to the stat's rank, once he evolves based on what you've been giving him, he'll raise a rank for the stats he evolved to (So if your Chao has a rank B in running and you make him a Run-type Chao, he'll be rank A in running), once he dies of age and re-incarnate he will be born with 10% of all the stats he had at the time of death and the same ranks (So if you made him a Run type he'll still have his rank A from the evolution, so if you evolve the reincarnae Chao to Run type again he'll get a rank S in run)

So imagine that the five stats are points on a pentograph, right? If one stat has higher numbers than the others, the Chao will likely evolve with that stat.

Alternatively if all the stats have the same number i.e. 100, I believe swim takes more priority over the other stats. So if you want your Chao to not evolve into a Swim Chao but not drown, you have to get the swim stat to 100 and level up the other stat you want to be higher.

Using an Action Replay or Gameshark let you edit whatever Chao you had in the Tiny Chao Garden on the Sonic GBA games. That includes infinite rings for the shop (useful as hell because grinding for them SUCKED), but also special colors and types including the character Chao. So, they made Sonic Unleashed, which had positive reviews for the day time stages and negative reviews for the night time stages. So they figured that's what people wanted and made Sonic Colors, which also reviewed positively.

Sonic CD is also on steam, but is the weirdest of the classics. Finally Sonic3&K never got a remake for some weird copyright issues and your best bet is emulation and grabbing Sonic3complete, a romhack to smooth out a couple of bugs online.

Faces are genetic. They are randomized in Black Market eggs, but parents will pass down faces. Keep in mind that Chao all have two sets of genes, so if both parents have recessive genes for a face then there's a possibility of the child getting that one. Hatching the eggs in different ways makes no difference. Everything about the Chao is determined when the egg is spawned, not when it hatches.

Tikal isn't strong enough to seal Chaos in the Master Emerald through her own power. In Sonic Battle, the explanation was that Chaos sensed the potential danger to the entire planet and left the Master Emerald to destroy Emerl. However, Sonic gets in the way and they fight each other. At the end of the game he returns to Tikal.

He was not only the God of the Chao, but of the Master and Chaos Emeralds as well. Remember, the Shrine on Angel Island is actually dedicated to him. IIRC, Tikal was a priestess that recieved her knowledge of the "Controller" and the "7 Chaos" from her Grandmother (which are obvious references to the Master and Chaos Emeralds).
