Twitch + YouTube is vastly superior to television

They died about the same time that gaming became a more mainstream accepted thing and it went away from specific geek appeal to normie shit

You'd think with how quickly technology is growing that we'd need Tech TV now more than ever.

Early 2000s G4 had the GOAT programming.
>>
G4 gives me the feels. I remember coming across it on TV when I was about 12, about 13 years ago, and it unironically felt like a channel made for me. It coincided perfectly with me discovering the internet and online multiplayer games.

I think it's downfall came from low effort content, which is ultimately probably due to lack of money for original content. The reruns of cops and other shitty shows killed what made the channel decent.

Portal was one of my favorites. It was so strange and obscure but I loved it.

>>386305945
G4 had issues well before these really took over.
>>
>>386305798
Absorbed Tech TV then killed all their good shows. What was left like X-play started to drop in quality. I remember watching E3 on G4 back when my computer was too shitty to stream, this was when they started going to shit. I was watching a conference and all of a sudden the camera is focused on some interns face with no sound. Then the guy from the conference pops back up and said
>Did ya like that
Or something to that effect.
>>
Good video that answers OP's question.

This.
>>
>>386307424
Cheaters really was the worst. Didn't mind watching Cops, though. I only felt like watching G4 whenever a new episode of Attack of the Show aired.

The end of G4 really sucked, and it seemed like they reran AoTS and X-Play episodes for about 2 years before they finally pulled the plug on the channel.

There wasn't a market for it when it was about Tech. Then there wasn't a market for it when it was about video games. Then there wasn't a market for it when it was like half video games, half Cops or whatever.

I remember everyone hating G4 for absorbing TechTV, but, desu, I never cared much for TechTV so I was okay with all the video game tv. I'd usually play video games on my computer and have G4 on my tv.

Owners tried to turn it into Spike 2.0 and failed miserably. Apparently, people that are into video games and anime, aren't really into shows like Cops and Cheaters. Who'd have thunk it?
>>
Really g4 could have hit this new wave of nerd culture shit hard and started streaming tourneys, giving shitty lets players a show and airing their old programs as throwbacks
Really they could still take advantage of it if someone were to get the rights to the programs

Video games and tech related topics in general do not lend themselves to a TV format, the network was doomed from the start. These things move way too fast for them to keep up with internet coverage, and the demographic they needed to target was the most likely to have an internet connection before it became near universal. X-Play was their most successful how, but was also a clear example of why the network had no future. Why would anyone watch X-Play for reviews when they come much later than what a website could provide? They couldn't possibly cover every game that was coming out either, unlike a website dedicated to games. People only watched for the personalities, and even that was fleeing.

What the fuck is this shit? Another numale channel?
>>
The only good thing to come out of TechTV was Anime Unleashed. It was garbage for actual tech news. Even TSS is garbage, having been tarnished retroactively by the unsavory lifestyles of its former hosts. Or perhaps it was never good to begin with.
>>
>>386310741
Look at the most popular forms of watching games.
People streaming out of their home responding to chat and people making prerecorded videos with jokes.

I recall a lot of Star Trek at one point as well.

You could argue video games don't work well for TV, and that may be true, but the whole channel is doomed if they play nothing but Cops.
>>
>>386305798
G4 was never good, TechTv before they were bought out by G4 was the real game/geek channel.
G4 destroyed Tech Tv and can rot for all I care, how about them Cops marathons?
>>
Im still trying to find that clip of G4 cutting to commercial during the Halo 3 trailer and you can hear Sessler flipping out telling them not to cut it.

Why do you think they started airing that stuff? None of their original programming was bringing in enough ratings to justify the existence of the network. G4 was dead long before they finally pulled the plug, it only shambled on for so long because Comcast owned it and didn't have anything better to put in that slot.

>>
>>386322614

Early 2000s culture was trash, I felt nothing.

Ninja Warrior, Code Monkeys, Cheat!, and AOTS were the only things I ever enjoyed on that channel
>>
>>386323404

Early 2000's was a weird remnant of the 90's up until 2003.

Oddly enough,it still feels like it's 2007 even though 10 years has passed.
