i was playing JFA in the night, some time at 1am-ish and it was really dark and quiet that night.
that scene took me off guard and manage to get a jump from me, it didn't help i was SUPER invested in that case (since its best case), so i was really worried for maya.

Epic Mickey has many of these kind of moments, the most memorable might be the clock tower fight or MickeyJunk Mountain. Thought there are some unused cocept arts that are outright Nightmare Fuel.

Sam here, I think a big part of it is isolation. In actual gameplay you never interact with anything friendly. Everything everywhere is out to get you. Saving the dragons felt less like interactions and more like hologram messages with the pads they stand on and replay message option.

Yeah, it does. Some Faris scenes were left out IIRC but otherwise it's the true end route. If you end up liking the series really much:
Watch the short OVAs and the extra episode.
Either skip the movie or take it with a pinch of salt. It's got some good scenes but overall isn't very memorable, and most importantly they fucked up some established time travel rules.
Play Zero, without spoiling anything, it has two (2) completely different major routes as opposed to the first game's one major route. They're not gonna manage that in the upcoming anime very well.
