Nothing. The controls are terrible, but we made due back in the day. It was still fun, especially with cheats or with multiplayer
>>
>>386294556
Shooters on console started getting better with controls when developers decided to use a more comfortable control scheme. The way that shooters feel and play have also changed since the 90s, graphics have as well.

So it's no surprise that when you revisit an N64 game that's also an fps, you'd also see how dated it is.
>>
>>386294556
It's no secret that it's aged fucking horribly. Any N64 fps game that isn't Duke 64 or Doom 64 have aged like milk and are almost unplayable upon returning to them. Meanwhile any 3D fps on PC from that era is still perfectly playable (Quake 1, Turok 1/2 Remasters on PC, Half-Life 1, etc.)

t. someone who played a shitton of Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Turok 1, Turok 2 on N64

Too bad it's such a bitch to run on modern systems, and GOG couldn't get their technomagical slav hands on it.
It's an amazing treat in all other regards though.
>>
>>386295028
It's honestly kind of odd that there was a delay between the hardware getting two sticks and developers moving to the move/aim system we now know.

I always get pissy when people classify GE64's controls as "unplayable". The game is not fucking unplayable.
Outdated? Sure. There have been uncountable improvements on FPS controls ever since, but that doesn't discredit the controls in Goldeneye. Unplayable? Not in the slightest.
Calling them unplayable comes off as petty. Blame such improvements for spoiling your perception, because they are far from unplayable.

You're a good guy anon, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise
>>
>>386295595
I mean those two games are obviously better on PC with KB+M but they are still totally playable on N64 since they aren't fully 3D fps games like the others that suffer from huge framerate issues, shit draw distance and shitty controls (aiming up & down not required in doom & duke, so it's less of a pain in the ass on an N64 controller).
>>
>>386295774
Lol. You have to hold R and fumble with the analog to get any sort of reasonable accuracy that isn't strafing your crosshair into a pile of enemies and letting the auto aim take over. That coupled with the awful framerate makes it a fucking slog to play. It's not something you notice when you're 10 and playing it as babby's first FPS but all of the PC FPS games of the same time controlled much better and were way more playable.

Obviously something like TimeSplitters Future Perfect on Gamecube/PS2/Xbox handles better than Goldeneye on N64, but that's not why Goldeneye feels like shit to play The controls were fucking shit compared to the FPS games of its own era.
>>
>>386295894
I dunno man, can't play shooters with a controller for the fuck of my life. It just seems horribly wrong, like trying to steer bike with your feet kind of thing.
And I played doom before I knew what strafing was and quake 1 on kb only back in the day.

>>386296953
>>386294272
NOLF1 is a way better game than NOLF2 but NOLF2 Cate is so much prettier and the visuals are amazing.

A proper NOLF1 remaster/remake with new models would be amazing, though any real "remake" would probably butcher the gameplay.

No doubt senpai. I feel the same about Timesplitters 2/FP
>>
>>386295894
>aiming up & down not required in duke
It actually kind of was, there was no vertical autoaiming like in doom and there were airborne enemies, ceiling turrets and stuff.
>>386297267
Yeah NOLF2 kinda sucked for lack of direction I suppose? I mean you had these huge openworld-esque levels and then fuck it all up with non-viable stealth and enemies which never stop coming, what the fuck.
It was perfectly serviceable as far as story and everything else went though, but a chore to play.
First one is the best story based fps on PC hands down.

Take off the nostalgia glasses. Use that money for something else. A new bicycle or a gym membership and workout clothes.

The game was fun when we were kids/teens. It's shit now. You'll play it only a handful of times.
>>
It is only worth 24.99

Use pricecharts you fucking dolts
>>
>>386293217
Goldeneye is a bit drawn out with the hit invincibility. Perfect Dark still holds up.
>>
>>386297830
Pretty sure he wants to own the last sealed copy as a collector, but yea, use the money for something useful, you could buy like 3 nice computers with that money
>>
>>386297820
Quake 1, Quake 2 and Half-Life 1 don't need remasters to be playable. As long as you can get the software running the original versions are still totally fine.

Turok 1 & 2 on PC only needed remasters because they were shitty console ports in the first place with all of the same problems as the N64 versions despite being on much more capable hardware.

They were godly for their time.

I'll never forget being 16 and in Boy Scouts and playing Goldeneye all night and browsing early 00's porn with my friends before travelling to Philmont for two weeks.

But holy shit, go back and play Goldeneye now, it hasn't aged well.

I fucking need PD hd with online multiplayer on pc
>>
>>386298131
If you play Half-Life today, it has been remastered. Unless you've installed from your CD copy, I guess.

Goldeneye does not need a remaster to be playable any more than Turok 1 and 2. All three have framerate issues.

The root of the problem is that you think a game that doesn't use WASD or dual analogs is necessarily outdated. Rather, the onus is on you to learn the controls.
>>
>>386299025
I'm pretty sure that's possible with 1964 emulator and a mouse injector.
I've tried it with Goldeneye only, but I know for a fact it also has functionality for Perfect Dark.

Is it particularly rare? This is the first time I've heard of this game.
