I like what they did with pair up in fates, but as the game goes on it's pretty much either your unit obliterates them, or they obliterate your unit. Echoes is really starting to grow on me since everyone can take a couple hits but you have more to work with with positioning being more important.

I suppose it still falls under the same lines as what you'd call "medieval shonen shit" but I've always liked the original Fire Emblem and Shadow Dragon for being more in the style of the good ole "knight takes on dragon, get's the princess and half the continent" with the twist being that he choses the childhood friend instead of the mighty princess. It still fits with the shonen narrative somewhat, since the only ones who stand a chance against the evil final boss is the chosen one, Marth, and his centuries old "loli who's actually a dragon" companion. Unless you get the other "centuries old loli who's actually a dragon and the avatar of a god". But older stories like Arthurian legend isn't considered shonen shit, but still has chosen ones and powerswords you need to kill the baddies.

But my biggest issue with FE games is not really that the plots are shonen-like, it's more that the writing is shonen-like. It's that the general writing of the games are pretty bad. Dialogues sound stupid, Characters are clichéd as fuck...

So yeah, I complain a lot, but what can I say ? In the end, I still play these games. It's just that it would be cool if IS would hire a real writer for once (Kabayashi did a terrible job). Or maybe just go back to light, fun and innocent stories, like in the Nintendo Wars.

Loli dragons are a huge reason of why I'm still playing these games.
