Ikaruga has three difficulties, at least on Steam, the only difference being which color types will jizz bullets at you when they die: none of them, ones hit with bullets of the same color, or ones hit with bullets of the opposite color. I think Ikaruga in general is a bit overrated, but I have to admit that it's one of the most elegantly conceptualized games ever, and just those minor differences alone make you feel like you're playing an entirely different game. Just suck it up and do Easy mode if the speed is too much, since accidentally switching in the middle of shooting an enemy is responsible for like half of the times you die when you first play the game.

Touhou is not that difficult, pretty much average game considering most of regular games offers 20 hours of gameplay.

Regular games offers easy but lengthy campaign, that'll probably last about 20 hours.
Touhou only has about 30 or 20 minutes, but requires hours of practices to clear it.
Don't even need 19.5 hours of practice, 10 hours at max.

Learn different types of bullets, its pattern, how it moves towards you, its hit boxes,
how you get bombs/healths, and how you conserve them.

Only intimidating thing about the game is just the visuals desu.

I've only played the PC-98 Touhou games, recommend me some of the Windows ones, /v/

I think waifu posting is fine if you're also discussing the games.
For example, Marisa is my waifu and as such I play her in every game. It's kind of interesting how she's changed over the years. ZUN must really be afraid of how op speed is, because it feels like she's getting nerfed every other game, or at least was during the religion arc. She's actually gotten decent buffs over the last three games, so I can't actually complain personally.

I wish we could get piercing back, but considering how mediocre these new piercing shots are no, Aya and Reisen are busted for every reason but their actual shots I have to wonder if it would be worth getting back.

It's been a bumpy road for her, power wise.
As far as I recall, whether or not Marisa has the highest damage output depends on the game.
As for recently, TD Marisa was actually kind of weak, and I believe she was outdamaged by Reimu in that game, though the AoE makes up for that somewhat.
DDC Marisa had the same damage, but her bomb was so amazing that nobody cared.
LoLK Marisa actually had a damage buff if I'm not mistaken, but that was overshadowed by how amazing Sanae was.
HSiFS Marisa seems to be the top dog again in terms of damage, and has the quickest boss kills out of the entire cast, so that's nice.
