I've learned to accept the fact that anything Nintendo rehashes will always get high marks across the board. Nintendo more than likely doesn't pay for any reviews at all, since reviewers will bend ass-backwards for them out of brand loyalty alone.

BOTW wasn't even that revolutionary or amazing, it lacked a lot of personal touches that would make it a 10/10. I fail to see how the latest rendition of MK8 gets near-perfect scores when the latest Forza or DiRT games usually have quite a bit of variability in their scores because people actually review them instead of looking at the pretty Nintendo characters like a bunch of mindless sapes.

This is the real reason honestly, it was top-tier in terms of the technology powering it for a console game released in 2009.

The most impressive part to me was how reactive and intelligent the enemies seemed to be, and how you could use the enviorment in kills that made the fighting dynamic and a struggle. It looked so good people thought it was scripted. But then they had other people come in to play the tech demo after the reveal and it blew everyone's fucking minds that it wasn't scripted.

The combat always looked great and interacted with the enviorment, but the AI seemed just as interesting. (The guy pleading for mercy in the gameplay reveal trailer was a highlight, as well as the bandits legit worried when you take their friend hostage.) Unfortunately, the AI seemed to get a downgrade in the final release.
