How viable is using a TV as a PC monitor for gaming?
>>
>>386270898
Cant see why it wouldnt work
>>
>>386270898
Input lag will be much worse than on a monitor
Game mode might help a bit
>>
>>386271009
How it would work when PC has no games?
>>
don't ask it like that, just post the screenshoot

if there is anything to bitch about, /v/ will bitch
>>
>>386270898
Sure, but you might wanna sit back a bit. Most people use monitors because they offer better response times and a higher DPI compared to a larger tv.
>>
>>386270898
i do it, it's mostly fine

reds are displayed weird and artifacty, the refresh rate is inconsistent, dynamic contrast/backlight adjustment is on even though you turned it off the settings
it's totally a lesser experience, but workable
>>
>>386270898
You'll get worse input lag and unless you buy a 4K TV in the 40" range (at most) you will get very low DPI, which looks like absolute crap up close.
>>
>>386271305

A screenshot isn't going to show any information about the monitor except for the resolution.
>>
>>386271148
>>386272116
This is a meme, unless your TV is more than 5 years old you literally will not notice a difference in response time.Anyone who says otherwise is probably too stupid to turn off all the cinematic post-processing shit.

The DPI thing is legit though. TVs have shit DPI since they're not meant to be viewed up close - I was using a 42" Bravia as a monitor for a while and it just wasn't worth the neck strain.
>>
OP here, I am currently using an LED 40 inch Samsung TV. Should I try get a monitor? I use an RX 470 currently.
>>
What do you want to do? Competitive CSGO is a total nono on TVs, even if you got one with a decent game mode that removes much of the image processing lag.

I guess console babies like to play with 120/200/etc hz interpolation modes since they are playing at 30fps on a more forgiving method of control, but interpolation is the source of much of the annoying processing lag.

Want to watch movies and play Civ 6 or something? Yeah, why not
>>
>>386272609
I mostly play single player games but I can get more than 60fps in them. My TV is 60hz
>>
>>386272241
I'm afraid that you're right my man
>>
>>386272398
>Anyone who says otherwise is probably too stupid to turn off all the cinematic post-processing shit.
on most tvs you actually can't

even on renown brands like samsung, the shit stays on even when disabled and in game mode
and there's still a good 20+ms difference when you're dragging a window from the tv to a modern monitor and comparing the delay

It's perfect for everything but multiplayer, where opponents take advantage of every, well, advantage. The tiny input lag will fuck you there, but be unnoticeable in singleplayer.
>>
>>386270898
still looking for something. I cant find a site that give a list of real 120 hz it looks like there is a lot of bullshitting marketing about 120hz buzzwords but most of them are 60hz interpolated or some shitty tricks. then it came the input, the hdmi, the dvi, the video card. some of the "native" 120hz tv are around the 800-1500 dollars... so whats the deal there are monitors in the range of 300-600.

Im still trying to figure out wich ones are truly 120hz and worth.
30-50" real 120hz, dvi input, 1440p less than 600 bucks.
>>
turn off all the post-processing shit and it should be fine. Some TVs don't have a standby mode though, so that might get annoying. You'd have to turn the monitor on yourself every time.
>>
>>386272446
Get an Nvidia card.
>>
>>386272998
the thumbnail looks like a surprised blonde woman
>>
>>386273563
But RX Vega.
>>
>>386274060
Which has higher power draw than a 1080 ti but trades blows with the 1070.
>>
>>386274238
So which Nvidia card should I upgrade to?
>>
>>386274349
Depends on your budget. 1060 would be negligible so if you can spend more go as high as you can.
>>
>>386274238
but fine wine my man, it's totally going to beat 1080 in a year when Volta is out
>>
TV as main screen for everything you do on PC? Hell no. For competitive shooters like CS:GO? Nope. But for games that work well with controllers? Hell yes.
T: LG B6
>>
My tv has an input lag of 12, which is really low for a tv. Usually the issue is input lag.
>>
>>386270898
Get a 1440p 32'' monitor.
Easier to drive than 4k, size is great, same PPI as a 24'' 1080p monitor so no scaling necessary and they are only about 500$ (including VAT).
Bought a Benq PD3200Q recently and it's great.
>>
>>386274813
This. It's great for games that don't need keyboard and mouse (because it's awkward as hell to use them in your sofa/recliner), but don't even consider it as your primary option.
>>
>>386274238
Faster than a 1080 is now trading blows with a 1070?

Guess the 1070 and 1080 are the same performance. Next week it'll be trading blows with the 1060.
>>
>>386275620
>Faster than a 1080
Wasn't it between 1070 and 1080 though?
>>
>>386274451
1060 is a complete waste of money coming from a 470. Nearly the same performance.

He should wait till volta at least, 470 is fine for 1080p
