Honestly? Not gonna' like to you: yeah, quite a few. But like pic related suggest, there's a reason cliches exist. When they're done well, they're surprisingly solid. They become cliches when everyone uses them, but transcend when done right. Cold Steel does them right, mostly.

Nah, not really. There's a lot more depth on display than most turn-based affairs. Most attacks are area-skills, there's tons of movement, and a heavy focus on manipulating turn-order through skills and delays.

That's the problem though. You can play just CS and never feel like you're missing information, but you are actually missing a ton of information and world building.

Cold Steel plays out two years after the events of the Trails in the Sky trilogy, and at the same time as the Crossbell (Trails to Zero/Azure) duology.

One of the strengths of Trails is that you can pick up a later game in the series and get into it just fine, and when you go back to the earlier games, there's so much context from those games that give the newer games much more meaning.

Compared to Zero and Sky this is really bad, both in terms of characters and setting.

Rean is a gary stu with fanfic past/abilities and school is just annoying and boring as fuck.

When I tested it, it seemed like when you go to open the locked door to the Old Schoolhouse for the first time after getting the key from the principal, the game did some kind of check regarding bonding mechanics before deciding to let you unlock it. I know this because fucking with the bonding points cheats produced two distinctly different results depending on what cheats you activated and in what manner: it either produced a message saying the door was locked and wouldn't let you into the building, or it produced a complete lack of text response when attempting to open the door, which was very odd. People on a Cheat Engine forum have reported that mission working with the bonding points cheats, but I wouldn't risk it since I'm not the only one on 4chan who experienced this problem and there are conceivably other quests which do similar bonding mechanics checks before allowing you to advance the quest. The NG+ file works fine for this purpose so there's no need to risk using the CE cheats.
Also, https://steamcommunity.com/app/538680/discussions/0/1471967615839359790/?ctp=3 has working instructions for using Cheat Engine to activate as many New Game+ options as you want with that save file. I just activated the max bonding points and all the costumes.
