Doesn't matter how much i try, i just can't seem to like western rpgs with an isometric view
>no immersion
>story is usually shit
>have to watch people missing their hits
>extremely low action points
>slow movement speed

Last one i tried was Underrail and it had every problem i listed plus horrible balance, now moving on to PoE, should i try the older ones that /v/ always memes or should i just give up?

Looks like someone is shit at making builds.
Let me guess, depot A?
>>
Underrail is just a shitty game.
Try Fallout and Fallout 2, they're infinitely better.

subjective.
I feel bad for anyone who thinks something is only immersive if it's in first person
>>

I do enjoy the futuristic and post-apocalyptic stuff more, but I wanna try the other kind as well. Let me see Baldurs and Planescape first.

No, but you can make unarmed build with inhumane stike power, mobility and defense.
>>
>>386228293

Never said otherwise, it's not about the camera tho, it's about how they tell the plot and how they present other npcs, wasteland 2 did a better job with that.

Underrail has probably one of the better balancing out of all WRPGs I've played. There's at least 6 viable builds that are very different from each other. Not many WRPGs manage to do this.
Underrail is a fucking tedious game to play though. I had to use cheat engine speed hack in order to make the back-and-forth walking a little bit faster. Also that fucking last level in the game. What the fuck was the dev thinking?
And yes, the story is fucking shit. It's a mish-mash of Fallout Games, System Shock and one other classic I cant remember right now.

Anyways if you really want to get into WRPGs, start off with the old classic. Fallout 1&2 and Baldur's Gate 1&2 are excellent games, immersive as fuck and have great stories (well BG1 is a meh but it's a prologue for BG2 anyway).

>Arcanum

>>
>>386229129
such a shame really, the setting is fantastic and there's a hint of something interesting in the gameplay

but it turned out so very very bad
>>
>>386229564
Arcanum just needs a bit of a face lift and it might be the best RPG period.
>>
>>386229657
honestly if someone competent did it, I wouldn't mind a modern remake

just someone who knows not to fuck with the great parts (setting, aesthetics, various characterizations and world interactions) and instead focuses on improving what needs to be improved (basically everything gameplay related, couple of HD textures)
>>
>>386230020
Arcanum Restoration Project/Enhanced Edition when?

>>386226235

>>
>>386232357
Yes, but with my two subpar pistols it's impossible yet. I kinda questioning my weapon of choice, it seems smgs are better.

To be fair, there is a tendency in oldschool RPGs and their kin to have a number of trap options that turn out to fukken sux only once you've gotten through a fair part of the game, or seemingly decent options underperforming later in the game with nothing to do but spend a lot of time respeccing/grinding or simply restarting. Stuff like tagging Big Guns in Fallout, and how much Small Guns start to suck around Necropolis, or your formerly god-tier ranger and/or melee niggas in Baldur's Gate turning into garbage in 2 thanks to mage supremacy.
It seems like those design choices were either intentionally made so that you'd wind up with niche options but instead one thing steamrolls everything, or there simply wasn't enough development time to implement all the shit that would have balanced things out.
>>
>>386232994
don't know, don't bother with that kind of shit. Armor and dmg reduction always.
>>
>>386232297
>>386232480
Sure, especially early on or if you're not fully geared yet. It's best to take the first few missions relatively straightforwardly.
Eventually they'll just become yet more fragile humans holding expensive loot, so you'll kill them before too long.
>Pistols
Have some unique feats and you can get a fair bit of AP reduction on them with DEX, but until you do they'll be weaker than SMGS (and Assault Rifles if you can wield them), especially if you're just taking single shots with each. Mainly because burst is fucking great.

>>386232627
>tfw I took this picture on my first playthrough because I was planning a heavy armour/assault rifle build but found a fantastic tac vest/longcoat early on and eventually got so sick of the contrast I restarted completely
How do you do it, anon? It started to bug me ever since I ran into the Protectorate guards and noticed they used the same picture.
>>
>>386232480
What type of build are you going for, anon? Do you want to specialise in pistols or are you just using them until you find something better?
>>
>>386233101
>>386233274
I planned to specialize in them. 3 str, 11 dex - there's no way back to heavy weapons. 3 will, no psy either.
I have gunslinger, aimed shot, point shot, sprint, expertise. Level 7 currently before junkyard.
I have a decent mechanic skill, but components for a new pistol have pretty poor quality, and high caliber pistol is not really useful with two shots per round. Maybe when I get rapid firing feat.
>>
>>386233509
>Level 7 currently before junkyard.
You'll be fine; I've noticed decent quality parts start appearing after completing Depot A. I'd say just stick with a pistol and SMG to get through Junkyard as quickly as possible, since even with no applicable feats burst-firing can be very useful if you need to output a lot of damage quickly. You should be fine to complete all of the optional quests in Junkyard itself (little serious combat, usually creatures or solo enemies), go carefully through Depot A and then gear up on the other side. You'll be a lot more damaging once you pick up/craft a good pistol or two.
Good luck, anon!
>>
>>386234391
Thanks. Solo enemies will be easy with my bear traps.
