Not sure if you have played it but many players suffer from hand problems because of the high APM required to play it at a competent level.

Melee has incredibly high APM (roughly 300 inputs per minute on average for competitive players), this coupled with the average person's relatively lax efforts at taking care of their hands and the typical lack of breaks taken results in incredible hand strain over extended periods of time when you factor in the shape of the GCN controller and the amount of unnecessary pressure applied due to gripping the controller more tightly than necessary.

The fact that certain inputs are pressure or timing sensitive also compounds matters. Really though; it only typically gets bad for fox players since they have the most ridiculous technical barrier in order to play competently and therefore require good hand maintenance if you intend to play the character for any extended length of time. The rest aren't too bad.

Leffen and Armada are some of the most technical Fox players out there and their hands are fine.
