You have to have played Witcher 1 and 2 before launch to really understand the disappointment people have for 3.

Witcher 1 and 2 had amazing Enhanced Edition patches that fixed a ton of different things. For Witcher 2 it completely changed a lot of assets and cinematics.
Witcher 3 had a PR stunt saying "there will be free DLC after launch" just to please fans. Essentially "we're not like EA, buy our game".
W3 was delayed and had massive visual downgrades close to launch which still haven't been fixed in an Enhanced Edition and since GOTY edition already exists, we probably won't see one.
The combat is still broken, if not more than the previous games. AI is stupid as all hell.
Open world this time for no reason. Only introduces new problems like the loot system, filling the world with recycled content. Previous games had a perfect setup with smaller worlds you could explore but didn't have so much empty space. You'd get the point of an open world if you saw things change as you went, but when you're done with a town's quest, it's back to business as usual.

You can trigger that cycle at any time during the boss fight, regardless of positions, by backstepping and doing a light or heavy attack.
If you backstep, heavy attack, backstep and the heavy attack again, you'll notice you can do it infinitely. Playing the game normally is breaking it.

It's similar to Skyrim's stealth archery. If you play the game normally you will 100% find this exploit yourself anyways. You can shoot someone and run to another room in a dungeon. The enemy will reset and forget you ever existed.

Most of the game was filler...some completely irrelevant bullshit, and the most relevant it got was introducing some character from the books or previous games and doing nothing with it. This was even the main quests. So I don't really get this complaint, oh if they only had enough time.lol.
