Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed P5 a lot, but as a newcomer to the Persona series, I'm genuinely curious as to why they're making a dancing game as a spinoff. It just doesn't seem to fit the serious tone of the games at all. Their games, from what I've experienced, and I could be wrong, seem to deal with themes of maturity, right and wrong, justice, the dark depths of the human mind, sins like greed and lust, mythology and religion, and trusting your friends and working to be a better person for the sake of others instead of yourself. And then to make a dancing game from that? I'm genuinely confused. Why?

Ironically, DAN actually had a very mature story about the Japanese idol industry and how it stamps out individuality. Dancing in the DAN is apparently meant to be an expression of your true self which inspires other captive personalities to break free and show their own individuality. I suppose the cardinal sin that the team is fighting against here is sloth and they fight (read: dance to show their true feelings) the personification of that at the end.

In my opinion, Persona has always been a series that juggles the dark and serious with the absurd and whimsical. You have teenagers fighting against gods (with chairs and other wacky weapons) on one hand and getting into sauna peeping tom skits on the other.

Also money.

The story does tie in with Persona 4's themes very well. It's not amazing, but it's often regarded as the best P4 spinoff in terms of story (at least on /pg/). It also portrays the teammate characters the best out of the spinoffs which is a major draw for Persona fans that like them.

One thing that I didn't mention, but others have, is the music. Persona is widely acclaimed for its soundtrack. They've had a lot of good musicians making a lot of popular hits (especially popular in Japan). DAN and Persona concerts proved that fans want more music so these games are the best vehicle for that.

Pretty sure it sold more than 100k just in Japan. Not that the worldwide sales are going to quadruple that, exactly. Arena is more popular, but also likely takes longer to develop, costs more, and the developer seems fairly preoccupied at the moment.

They also probably want to prolong their P5 milking as long as possible. The anime, Q2, and DSN are all coming out next year. Can't have people forgetting about Persona 5 come 2019.

They could make so much money if they sold Persona 3 and Persona 4 A complete overhaul Remake at $40 or even better for us both for $60.

It kind of made sense when it was based on Persona 4 only since it had pretty happy tone compared to the rest, doesn't make a fucking dancing game spin-off any less retarded though.
However making dancing game out of Persona 3 is just sraight up stupid, the game's main theme is death and how there is no way to stop it, the whole game is dark in general with sad ending for every character in the game, suddenly making a happy game featuring characters that fucking suffer all the time is pretty weird.
It's like making a fucking dancing game based on Crime and Punishment.
