In a single player game, characters can be awesome and you just think "guys fucking cool". At the end of the day, the character being awesome is just another extension of the player, who controls him, being awesome.
The fact that they were all largely relatable and well acted didn't hurt, either.

In an MMO, when you focus too heavily on one character, you're just detracting from the player. This wasn't so bad in vanilla and TBC, where the player was essentially just another guy not really that special, so having great characters in the background was decent fluff.
When they started making the player an actual somebody, their insistence of wanking off certain characters feels like they're yanking the carpet out from under you.

WoL's missions were varied, fun, and engaging. I played the original Brood War campaign to death because of how much I loved the story, and while I hated many of SC2's changes, I still enjoyed myself.

Heart of the Swarm felt a little bit more oriented around a single hero, but it was still decent.

IMO, Blizzard doesn't make *bad* games. For what it's worth, SC2 is still a game of skill, as "casualized" as it might be compared to Brood War (but "casualized" is a stupid word and, if we take it to an absurd point, we should all still be playing something like Warcraft 1 online.) SC2 on Hard/Brutal is a treat, and not many RTS campaigns have such a variety of missions, choices or difficulty; you don't need to employ high APM gameplay to beat the final missions of Brood War, no matter how tough they are at surface value.

The original plot for Ashbringer was to have Alexandros' son, Darion, be in the Outland. After a human campaign into Naxxrammas recovers the Cursed Ashbringer and the Argent Dawn is made aware of Renault's treachery, they would confront the Scarlet Crusade in Tirisfal, resulting in the Monastery's destruction and Abbot Fairbanks' miracle. It was meant for the humans to try and find a way to open the Dark Portal to get to Darion, so Darion could reforge the Cursed Ashbringer and bring out its purity again, which could then be used as a weapon to counter Frostmourne when Arthas made a move to conquer the Eastern Kingdoms.

Some of that got into the MMO, but that became a dropped plot point because none of the writers paid attention to their fluff when Burning Crusade hit.

That whole walk up definitely gives me chills. Especially with all the voice clips in the background echoing in Arthas' head, as he tries to push them all out.

I actually thought for a second when he hit the sword that he was attacking the Lich King, only to realize he was simply freeing him and fusing. That zoom out gives you the perfect feeling too.

It's been retconned in the Chronicle book and fallout from WoD. The Twisting Nether is a separate entity from outer space it bleeds into it such as what is seen in Outland. It also bleeds into planets such as Argus that's why demons can be permanently killed there.

After Sargeras went AWOL, the Twisting Nether went from small Nebula looking light shows to rivers and lakes of Arcane and Fel energy throughout space. Sometimes this energy is focused around planets, in which case you get something like Argus which is saturated with it. If it weren't for Argus being special, killing demons on it likely would knock them out for awhile. Considering Kil'Jaeden wasn't close enough, he's likely flat dead.

You don't need garbage blizzard to get a decent world editor. By using Unreal Engine 4 you can allow people to program in c++ or use blueprints. C++ being the JASS equivalent and blueprints being the trigger equivalent. But here is the issue, you have to be a huge company.

I'm currently working on making something like Warcraft 3's battle.net. I've currently got most of the basic things down for a custom game like "Warcraft 3". I'm using UE4 so adding modding is going to be extremely easy to do. The only issue is that no one is going to give a fuck, the market has changed and I'm a nobody. And even then I would need hundreds of models, I would needs thousands of animations for those models, I would need thousands of voice clips for them too. Making something like Warcraft 3 again isn't something that can be done by anyone, it has to be done by someone extremely big like Blizzard that has the capital to make it happen and also has the capital to loose if it does fail. Let's face it, the golden age of Warcraft 3 custom games is never going to happen again, I mean Valve completely failed. Mostly because they're retards that never understood why it took off in the first place.

I'm trying, but every mission takes an hour, and even though I seem to have decent macro [stay at No Expenses and a fuckton of turrets and like 5-6 unit producers, wait for AI to suicide on my defense then mount a counterattack immediately], it still takes me hours to complete a single mission.

I've done it. Some missions are like that, it takes ages to produce a 100 food army with all upgrades to take on a big AI base.

I think the hardest mission was that one in Frozen throne where you're playing Sylvanas and defending against that one dreadlord. You start with very little units and have to take out a smaller undead base nearby very fast or you won't stand a chance.
