But anon, DaS3 is miles above DaS in EVERY aspect except world design. And the saddest part is that the world design of DaS is only good until the second bell, so 1/3 of the game.

The only good thing about DaS isn't even that good. If we're being objective BB=DaS3>sotfs>DeS>DaS>DaS2

I sincerely can't understand how can someone prefer DaSII, or SotFS. The world and atmosphere is extremely bland, a vast amount of enemies pivot like fuck (while in the first one circle-strafing was overpowered, this is an ugly solution), combat is floaty and weightless, very heavy weapons feel fake and lacking in impact (what a little camera shake would do), the game mostly consists of putting you up against multiple enemies, whose individual AIs are too easy making those encounters feel boring and a poor attempt at bringing in difficulty and covering the AI's simplicity, Soul Memory doesn't even need explaining, levelling up at an NPC given the world's structure was also a mistake that breaks the pacing and the rolls are broken, since the hitbox doesn't leave the starting point until the end, not to mention the brilliant idea of having a dump stat to increase your roll i-frames.
This one is more of a personal thing, but I also dislike how parries are no more a reactionary thing and instead have you predict the move, since the parry effect doesn't start at the beginning but after a short yet noticeable start-up animation.

I played SotFS earlier this year, given people talk so highly of it and how much of an improvement it is over the original, but it honestly didn't feel any better, it's more of the same.

I just can't comprehend why people like it. Is it pure contrarianism?

It's just a carryover from Dark Souls being called DaS to differentiate it from DeS, and even then, one can only hope. DeSII might come out someday.
