translators have a hard job, they have to literally translate moon, and then they have to make it sound coherent, and or palatable to a different culture.

Most RPG dialogue is dry, and ultimately adding memes to the dialogue helps it be more memorable, like OPs image. Working designs often got shit for their translations but I didn't think they were all that bad except for maybe like 2 games, really.

the PC version of FF7 is fine, it also has a handy glitch (that you have to go out of your way to trigger), that can let you get aeris back in your party if you so desire, through the yuffie glitch specifically, that lets you skip parts of the game.

As for the argument, he points out that there are multiple ways to translate from Japanese to English and there are other issues at play (namely, English words being in the original).

DBZ wasn't the best dub but it was far from bad. It was a shonen cartoon, you shouldn't be expecting realistic acting you should be expecting lively characters which it did decently if not as well as other shows. Other shows like GITS are where you should be expecting more realistic acting.

But probably a more important thing to note is it was a 90s dub. Of course if you compare it to something today you're going to find better examples of acting, people have had time to look back and develop their skills over decades since then. Dubbing has come a long ways since the 70s, and a little ways since the 90s.

Like if you went and insulted acting in 30s movies, at the time a lot of that was top notch acting, it just doesn't usually compare well with a lot of acting today that was built off of it.
There are exceptions with movies like The good, the bad, the ugly which had really top notch everything and was made in the 60s and was just really ahead of it's time.
