Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.

Goldstein's book is just another piece of propaganda by the Party, anon.
Overpopulation isn't simply that there are too many humans to house and feed. The mouse paradise experiment showed that populations start getting fucked up far below carrying capacity.
Overpopulation is that there are simply too many people to give an adequate amount of luxuries to. Compare China and India to the UK. The UK has lower GDP, but because they aren't overpopulated, they have a much higher standard of living. That's why letting in people into Western countries at this point is counter-productive. If standards of living are to go up, population must go down.

>The amount of pollution you would need to create an apocalypse seems impossible.
Depends on the kind of pollution.
If you were to release enough IR-opaque pollutants (CO2, methane, etc) you could cause the Earth's temperature to rise.
Now that on itself is quite a slow method to cause a apocalypse...
Until you realize there are (estimatedly) millions of cubic MILES of methane trapped in clathrate (pretty much a ice "cage" for the gas) underneath the oceans (and some cold lakes)
Methane clathrate is fairly stable by itself, but if the pressure drops or the temperature rises too much the methane will "boil" from the ice lattice.
Remember how methane is a greenhouse gas? Well, if the process starts it will be pretty difficult to stop it, temperature rise cause methane to evaporate into the atmosphere thus causing a stronger greenhouse effect that in turn increases the temperature causing more methane to be released.
You can see where it's going

You do realize sword and board is pretty much symbolic with heroism right? For the same reason the main bad guy tends to be a spellcaster of sorts.
The sword and shield are tools to defend the weak, a common blade isn't hard to get ahold of, anyone can pick it up and swing. To master them requires dedication, time, and incredible amount of experience (sometimes literally).
The antithesis to this would be vast magical power obtained by illegitimate means. Typically by whatever plot device or bullshit. It is innate, overwhelming and requires little to no practice.
That said I'm not disagreeing with you, it's done to death. I'm upset there aren't many lancers in the MC role, which a spear is similar to a sword in many of the regards I listed. But how else would you go about this? Aside giving the player a few classes/sub lasses to choose from? The sword as a starting weapon is quintessential at this point.

The Mad Max scenario.
>Racing game
>Every car handles like shit
>90% of races are drag strips
>villain and hero team up to fight the true evil
>hero just nicely forgets all the heinous deeds the villain did prior to this and doesn't even put him in jail
>villain kills his own henchmen to appear intimidating
Roll my eyes out of my skull every fucking time.
>>386220932
That's why they are importing millions of shitskins, duh.
>>386200645
I love it when this retarded trope is shit on.
>>386216310
That's because your uncle molested you.
>>386196740
Name four games that do that.
>>386198669
Yeah but even they eventually went with the nuke story by thunderdome.
>>386195738
>The main villan is the protag's father
>You have to fight and / or killing him in order to win the game / finish the story
>Either that or that ONE character you couldn't save because fuck you
>>386195738
>post-apocalyptic world
>whites are less than 10% of the population, most countries are overrun by low IQ population, driving crimes up
Yet this is the world we live in.

I don't tend to have a problem with this as long as the audio log placement makes sense. Audio log next to corpse, aka person recording it; audio log from whoever was in that room, etc. My biggest issue with that is that you never know if you should stay put, stare at the wall and listen to it or if you move on you'll encounter an enemy or plot point so now you can't hear the log because your focusing on the combat or worse, audio log doesn't stop when plot point is happening and someone's talking. They should add a fucking stop button or something.
Having to listen to everything from the beginning because you missed one bit is exhausting.
>>386223338
Oblivion had this pretty bad. Then again, it also had the opposite problem. If I recall correctly, there was no legit way to cast the highest leveled Fingers of the Mountain spells because they cost too much magic to cast.
>>386195738
Frog posts on /v/ is a trope I hate a lot.
>>386196751
>"Okay."

China and India contribute more to overpopulation and pollution than any other country in the world. Why is the US the only one being attacked for it?
>>386198538
Although, it was kinda funny how they fucked with you in the original Saints Row where you think your guy is mute, but he ends up saying like one witty sentence during the last faction-specific missions.
>>386195738
>villain was just trying to stop a greater evil from killing literally everyone
>you defeat him anyways and now you have to deal with said greater evil
>you're only options to do this are either be worse than the original villain, be good but doom everyone in the process, or be good and grind a bajillion dollars to avoid dooming everyone
>>386224449
Fable 3 right?
>>386216717
What I dislike the most about this shit is that it's a simplification of a better trope where the villain was once a friend to the main character and their conflict came with not wanting to believe their friend became evil.
It became telephone-gamed hard by the industry and split between "oh they aren't even they were mind controlled all along by the real evil!" or "it's just some guy we can't commit a murder!"
Gotta dumb down entertainment for the cattle, goy.
>>386197823
>Look in preacher podium
>find book about lying
It happened more than once in Fallout 3, really pissed me off at the sheer fedora of it and I'm not especially religious.

Dumb goys, when people bring up overpopulation meme they're only talking about shitskins.
Whites only make up some 10% of the worlds population. Keep checking your privilege though.
>>386199210
The only game I've seen that handled Amnesia well was NV. Because in that you could choose to be as amnesiac as you liked.
For example, if an NPC was talking about Caesar's Legion you usually got three dialogue options like
>I met the Legion before, for I have had a life outside of the intro cut scene.
>Refresh my memory plz.
>NEVER HEARD OF THEM BEFORE ALSO TELL ME ABOUT THE ENN SEE ARR WHOEVER THEY ARE AS WELL
>Hate newspaper.
>>386195738
yeah bro pollution could never destroy the planet haha
>>386221934
Fucking Diablo 3.
The 'chosen one' trope is my personal most-hated of all time.
Like, if I'm the fucking 'chosen one' then what's the point of the adventure or story in the first place? You literally told me at the beginning that I'm already going to win, so what's the struggle/dilemma? Whatever fucking happened to 'heroes aren't born, they're made'? When you make the main dude the 'hero' before the adventure even starts, then there's no fucking point to the entire adventure.
>>386199210
I liked the way they pulled it off inBaten Kaitos.

Okay why is a villain being after power/money/fame considered bad by people? Most terrible people in real life only wanted those those things so why is it "generic" for a fictional villain to be that way?
>>386228289
We don't like to be reminded of reality or real evil people so we don't want actual jews in our vidya as well.
>>386228289
It often, but not always, leads to a less interesting narrative.
>post-nuclear apocalypse world
>200 years after the bombs dropped everything is still a mess and everyone lives underground
>you are the chosen one
>>386227408
>open world
>there's no hidden treasures or exciting new places to find
>>386228289
Because the protagonist could just as easily be after those same things.
Lots of people pursue money/power/fame IRL, but so long as they abstain from aggressive violence, these efforts usually contribute to the common good.
Or if you'd prefer, these are things most people pursue themselves, so they find it difficult to imagine m/p/f being the sole determinant of morality.
>>386228289
There's nothing wrong with it
it's just pretentious assholes who hate villians who think that every villian needs to be an extremist with a "noble cause" and not just a douchebag
>villain hates humanity andcwants to destroy it
>find out why
>one shitty thing happened to them

Wasn't the entire point of that game to prove morality is retarded because every faction has good and bad aspects and that humanity will persevere no matter who you supported? Every ending was the same shit, just different shades of shit.
>developer was forced to rush the game out by the publisher
:^)
>>386229025
name me 1 (one) (uno) (ett) game that does this. Can you be the one who pisses into the cornflakes?
>start game at max power/level
>immediately lose everything and have to start from scratch
>>386229114
No. That wasn't the point of the game at all. Like, not even a little. I'm a little interested in how you came to that conclusion. There's three main factions in the game that fit nicely into "good", "bad", and "neutral".
The thesis of the game is known to be the futility of building a new world in the image of the old one. Our boy JES confirmed.
>>386222845
