If you think you can, knock the shit out of the french or the netherlands early on. Once france starts blobbing into africa, they'll have more resources to fight you with unless you can stop them. The netherlands are a safe bet, as they have a strong navy at start but don't have the same land as you do to start with. I can't remember the exact positions so you can either go into the netherlands or bavaria, although you'd gain less from bavaria.

The town area I grew up in happened to be one of the first places to have communist sentiment in Canada. We elected the first communist mayor, town council, and school board in the 30's. Part of the reason is that it is originally a mine town area. Because of low wages and worker's right basically not being a thing at the time, it makes sense.
