>>
>>386188607
they're tricky to make
and modern graphics and stuff mean things are expensive and take time
plus there's tried and tested formulas that work, whereas something like deus ex is a bit more niche. a lot of developers and publishers will see it as too risky to make

I mean let's think about deus ex
you've got lore, conversations, tidbits of world building, flags, triggers, game mechanics, infolinks, inventory systems, logs of all the information you've received, items kept around the world, look systems, good level design, good music, good use of sound effects

it's a lot to think about

Try out The Dark Project next, it's a first person stealth game but has phenomenal non linear level design and similar to Deus Ex you'll never encounter a dead end in the levels as long as you're smart enough since you can use all the tools given to you to be pretty creative. The second one improved on a lot of issues people had with the first but The Dark Project is one of the earliest games that can fit the immersive sim description, Ultima Underworld was earlier but might be a bit too dated for people now a days.

Deus Ex is undeniably silly in places, but the writing and subject matter elevate it above most games, especially since it tackles issues that are still relevant today, maybe even moreso than when it came out.

Stop comparing SS2 to Deus Ex. This is the most idiotic comparison, and I see it all the time. SS2 does not have roleplaying, SS2 does not have roleplaying decisions, SS2 does not even have dialogue outside of the ending. Bioshock is never considered an RPG, but for some retarded reason everyone considers SS2 to be, even though Bioshock has more roleplaying elements than SS2.

This is what I like about Deus Ex, I remember watching an interview with Spector and he said that he likes when developers make content that not everyone will see because it encourages more discussion about the game and encourages more play throughs.

Another thing that I didn't know for a while was you can go into the cell where Simons interrogates the NSF soldier and talk to the soldier himself.
>>

>>386189638
E.Y.E far more entirely conceptual in its ideas and the gameplay is only tangentially similar really, it plays more fluidly.
E.Y.E also leans more heavily towards FPS but gameplay options in terms of combat are still varied and you can do a lot of creative fun shit with it.
Don't go in expecting Deus Ex but rather a child of Deus Ex's legacy.
>>

You can fight her either on the plane or after, when you're running from UNATCO.
I usually set a LAM for her on the wall of the plane and she trips it as she runs into the room.
>>
>>386189638
It's a fun shooter with a weird tory and a shitload of level up systems
It's not anything like a classic cRPG focused on writing
>>
>>386190382
>Also are you supposed to fight navarre on the plane or later?
whenever. you can kill her on the plane. you can kill her in battery park after the apartment raid or you can kill her at the end of the Unatco Escape
>>
>>386190572
Ah, I heard someone talking about a bossfight with her and I had just blown her away with the plasma thingy.

>interrupt Simon's interrogation
>the UNATCO troopers talk about how they won't tell Manderley
>twenty hours later, I'm at the Ocean Lab
>Simons brings up how I interrupted it during his pre-battle dialogue

Deus Ex is glorious. The dialogue is so varied depending on how you play, and to carry that event on for basically the entire game feels fantastic. I can't really think of any other games where your decisions constantly introduce new little events.

>I can't really think of any other games where your decisions constantly introduce new little events.
In terms of things like that I'd have to say Troika's Arcanum is the best at that. You can kill anyone in the game and still not enter a fail mode where you straight up cannot beat the game. I was replaying it last month and I picked up a newspaper article in one town and was able to use that information in a side quest in a completely different town all through speech with the person.

It's a straight up isometric cRPG so it plays nothing like Deus Ex but if you like insane attention to detail, world building and non linear progression it's worth a shot. In terms of pure roleplaying, no game has ever come close to it.

dxhr was a fairly solid attempt, though it did become a zombie game towards the end
dxmd had a very nice open world with prague, but the side missions are somewhat linear and overall the game's fairly short
it's a shame really, because if the game had another hub or two of the same quality as prague it'd would be a 10/10 I think

HR is a great game but you can clearly see that they ran out of money/time at the end of the game. The whole story with Megan Reed kinda ended just like that, and she's not even in the sequel which just fucking sucks considering how vital she is to the story in the first game, I mean after all, 90% of the game is searching for her.

Mankind Divided is alright. A bit too short but the gameplay is fun. Shit optimization on PC though and there are so many annoying things in the game, like that fucking metro loading screen and overall jankiness of the dialogue. Also microtranscations for a singleplayer game. What the fuck is this bullshit?
>>
>>386193835
I'm not him, but low-tech is useful for boosting the single-hit damage of the DTS to the point where you can use Combat Strength and Targeting to break anything that isn't invulnerable. Saves a lot of picks later on.

>playing unpatched or non-GOTY

The dragon's tooth on the newest version is complete shit for destroying objects. It deals 5 x 20 damage, and only the 5 counts. So in effect, the crowbar is 20% better at destroying objects than the dragon's tooth is. The real top tier destroyer that isn't an explosive is the sniper rifle, sitting at 25 damage.
>>
>>386193835
I upgraded it so the throwing knives would do one hit kill damage
You can run with heavy weapons on mastery
>>386193574
It's fun to shoot, maxing out heavy skills makes it more powerful

Deus Ex isn't an arcade shooter.

Could a game like this exist today?
>>
Despite the memes. I'm actually tempted to try a playthrough where I max out swimming and environmental
>>
I just beat this for the first time and unironically think it's the best game I've ever played. Everything just feels so right, God-tier OST to boot.

I wish more modern games had the love and care that was clearly put into this.

We just have to re-play all the goodies once in a while. And hoping we can still have not-shit threads about them.

It's a cheat probably. When you just start lockpicking or hacking with a multi tool, open up your inventory and wait however long it would've taken to open the lock in game.

The lock will be open and you'll only ever use one item, regardless of level or skill.

Kill the helicopter technician at Morgan's place, he's an MJ12 spy and plants the bomb.

Swimming isn't really worth it. There's like only one actual alternate route in the game that needs a decent swimming and that's in Lebedev's airbase's underground.
Upgraded once, swimming is nice. Because JC swims so fucking slowly it's painful.

Talking to one of the bartenders in France

>Got anything to drink?
>Sure, if you like rat piss.
>Never tried it.
>>
>>386201379
Swimming I could see but don't you need those one-time use suits to even use environmental? Fuck that.
>>
>>386201748
It's pretty handy for when you escape Versalife the second time desu.

Deus Ex is even more relevant today than it was at the time of its release.

But in today's world, it covers things THEY don't want you to know.

yeah.

Do you like conspiracy theories, cyberpunk, and RPGs? Then yes.

Even if you don't like those things the answer is still yes.
>>
>>386201960
You should probably have a pretty good idea by now after reading this thread.
The answer is yes, by the way, just remember that the sequels are still good but nowhere near as good as the original.

Do you have a single fact to back that up?

A mallet of a man. He is a colleague, not so slow-witted as one might think, effective. The administration speak of his inferiority complex, but this talk is never brought to him. He doesn't mind. The less he has to do with psychologists the better. They evaluated him when he joined up, they thought him fit for duty. That was sixteen years ago. Mechanically augmented, his modifications give him great strength but make him a horror to behold. A high price, but he pays it gladly. All for the agency.

But, the Dentons. Paul and JC begin working alongside him, nano-augmented agents whose microscopic modifications render them indistinguishable from the public at large, and the seed of doubt is sprouted. He may be replaced, disassembled to make room for more Nano-Augs. He realizes, if he had waited to become an agent, he might not have had to do these awful things. Had he waited, he might've been a candidate for nano-augmentation, and not become a "mech", a "freak".

He could even have chosen an entirely different path, never leaving that farm in Graubunden, never giving up his dear Nadia. He could have been felling trees outside of Sils im Engaden, working hard from dawn to dusk, and then going home to a roast beast and a drink. He can almost taste the wine slipping down his throat, a Grisons, taking refuge within him to warm his bones.

But that was ages ago, another time. Now is the hour of lubricated servos and flourescent lights, of orange soda and soy food. Of cold. His life is no longer his, he is part of something else. He soldiers forward, what were once his feet now nothing but fusion between steel and boot. He never stumbles, not once. He does his best to fight, but there is no place for his flamethrower or his plasma rifle anymore. Things are more subtle now, more surgical. He cannot use a stealth pistol, his fingers are too large and stiff, like frozen sausages. Why is it always so cold here?

People move away from him, turn away, fall away. Joseph Manderley, his supervisor; Private Lloyd, just a boy; Anna Navarre, pale Anna, the best approximation of a kindred spirit, borne away under the rocks of man. A dank catacomb in Paris. How is it still so cold? The niter clogs what is left of his lungs. A word, and he flies to pieces. How did it come to this? The dark: one thought, a memory of high mountains with white cliffs, the cobblestones are cool as they meet his feet. Going home. I am not a machine.

Yes. The first and Human Revolution are God-tier and Mankind Divided is good. Never played Invisible War because it didn't jive with the ending I picked for the first game so I never felt any interest.
>>
>>386202421
You've got ten seconds to beat it before I add you to the list of NSF casualties.
>>
>Again they ignore me. Again they think they have a better punishment for a traitor than a shotgun to the head.

>No, I cannot forgive! No... not the killing of Agent Navarre! I will follow you - Denton, I will get you!

>You are a small, prowling mouse... and dumb like a mouse! You keep coming, like you forget about Agent Navarre. I remember Agent Navarre. I remember for everyone.

>I see you, a thief on the roof. My new satellite link has both infrared and the x-ray spectrum. I see your heart beating. I see you are afraid.

>"Well be sld at flee markets,. old gray golems for scareing the children. So what about my legss? What about my LIFE?

Why is Gunther unironically the best character?

>it didn't jive with the ending I picked for the first game
All the endings from the original are canon in IW.

I felt bad for him in all honesty. but then I remembered he and Navarre were pieces of shit who just enjoyed killing people and had no ideology other than violence.

Best use of this template I've ever seen.
>>
>>386202654
I know they combine the 3, you merge with Helios, kill Page and then destroy Area 51

I took the Dark Age ending, no second thoughts and never played IW. I probably will play it soon after my next run through of the original, trying the new GMDX

The shitty graphics add to the charm. Unless you're having issues rendering the game whats the deal?

What's the cut off for you in terms of graphics? I have honestly never played a game and had the graphics detrimental to the experience, one of the least important aspects of a game to me.
Except for Dwarf Fortress.
Anna was the real piece of shit since she knew what UNATCO was really up to and was all for it. Gunther was too stupid to know and was just following Anna around. I threw down with Gunther as a token of respect.
