Why did they have to make him so outrageously ugly? It made playing as him kind of a drag

WERK YA DAMN NAG
>>
He's not ugly per se, but he definitely looks like a greasy Mexican
>>
>>386182368
ma'am
>>
>>386182527
fpbp. The voice acting was the issue.
>>
>>386182527

I never got this. What the fuck is a nag?
>>
>>386182368
Everyone in RDR was ugly. Rockstar really doesn't like to make good looking male characters for some reason.
>>
>>386182368

When he's younger he's actually pretty cool and dramatic looking. I don't know why they made him look so greasy when hes older
>>
I found it more strange that he wore his dead fathers clothing.
>>
Everyone was ugly in the old west.
>>
>>386182685

A sickly/skinny horse.

John Marston wasn't ugly. He was very ruggedly handsome.
>>
>>386182778
>having a dad that awesome
>not wanting to emulate him

The only thing I wouldn't do is marry a prostitute, but that's just me
>>
>>386182776

To show how he was embittered and jaded ever since his father died at the hands of the government.
>>
>>386182876
Didn't she fuck everyone in his gang, too?
>>
If Jack Marston was just as handsome and cool as John Marston, the postgame would lose its impact.
>>
>>386182368
>>386182527
This was completely intentional. You're not supposed to like Jack. Everything about him is supposed to remind you that John is dead and make it hurt more.
>>
>>386182957
Yep, sucked their syphilitic dicks and all.
>>
>>386182368

this made no sense at all

>kid is quiet, likes to read books, intellectual, father tells him not to be an outlaw
>in the span of just 3 years he gets amazing gun skills, riding skills, lives the outlaw life

How? How did his personality change so dramatically, and how did he pick up so many skills in just 3 years?
>>
>>386182368

>that clear step down as you go from the manliest of all men to generic angsty teeny shit

I dropped the game right there.

John deserved a better son.
>>
>>386183082
Christ, John was such a cuck.
>>
>>386182368
ugly history, ugly character, ugly appearance
>>
because he became everything john didn't want him to be.

ITS DEEEEEEEEEP.
>>
>>386183145
I mean, if my father was killed by feds even after doing everything for them I would also become a criminal.
>>
>>386183071
>>386183043

But I actually liked Jack. He had a lot of witty comments when doing stuff, plus I like his story (his father being killed makes him a cynical and jaded outlaw).
>>
>>386182368
Fuck him being ugly, why did they force you to play as him after beating the fucking game?
Jack was THE worst thing about the game.
>>
>>386182368
His face was literally just a retexture of John's.
>>
have they said what time period RDR2 will take place in? I'd kill for a post-civil war setting.
>>
>>386182527
The voice didn't get age at all either taking John's most notable aspect with him to the grave.
>>
>>386183230

Life is a bit more complex than that. I mean yeah no fucking way would I do it but it hurts that the cuck meme has made everyone so bitter. I liked John and his wife's relationship.
>>
>>386183145

He goes and trains with landon ricketts
>>
>>386183549
Its prequel to RDR so 15-20 years before which would be the late 1880s or early 1890s.
>>
>>386183549
Yeah, it'll be after the civil war, because otherwise the weapons would suck.
>>
>>386183424
I like Jack too, as his own character, but I vastly prefer John.
There's clear examples of instances where Jack does things that are intended to just remind the player that they're not playing as John anymore. The "work ya damn nag" quote is one of the most obvious examples because John treats horses extremely well, even being kinder to them than most people he encounters. John kills a lot of people without hesitation, but killing a horse will pretty much always get John to say how fucked up he thinks he is on the spot.
>>
>>386183591
>John actually berating Abigail on almost every aspect a wife knew back then
>still love each other anyway

Wish my parents weren't complete assholes and actually put up with each other.
>>
Why did John hate Uncle so much?
>>
>>386183591
Well yeah, they had a good relationship but it doesn't change the fact that John married the village's bicycle.
>>
>>386183902
because he was a cantankerous old prick.
>>
>>386183145
>>386183674
Landon is possible, but also remember that before John died he spent time dragging Jack around hunting and riding and ranching and such. It's not like he doesn't know how to do those things.
>>
>>386182368

This game didn't need an unhappy ending. Why can't they just have made it that John lives happily ever after with his family? I know a theme of the game is "the wild west is dying" but I dont think John had to die to communicate that. I thought it was needlessly depressing and it would have been more profound had he gotten his redemption and was finally able to live peacefully

>mfw I kill every enemy horse and skin their hides to sell them even though money doesn't mean shit in Rockstar games
>>
>>386182368

It was amazingly cool in undead nightmare, how when you beat the storyline, John comes back as a zombie and that's how you can play

I love it when open world games have creative stuff like this to justify playing after the story is over
>>
>>386183910
Plenty of people marry sluts. It's not quite the same thing as letting somebody fuck your wife while you're still married. John isn't a "cuck" despite the memeshit propensity to label him as one. John already ends up killing the rest of the gang, but can you imagine his fury if he found out someone had been fucking her while she was captured?
>>
im so excited for RDR 2 man
>>
>>386182949
The should have made him look cooler. I think its his hair that makes him look gross
>>
>>386184115
His redemption or lack thereof was in how the player wanted to play. It's literally the only Rockstar game where I don't go on a rampage because the narrative fits with wanting to straighten up and fly right.
>>
>>386183902
Because Uncle is extremely lazy. John is almost diligent to a fault.
>>
>>386184561
To be fair, mostly everyone had gross hair. Ever play any of the gambling games in multiplayer as Red? He looks like shit without a hat
>>
>>386184115
Avenging him as Jack Marston was pretty cool though
>>
>>386184280
I like how in the gubmint still came to kill John after he stopped the zombie apocalypse
>>
>>386184749
Jacks was decent when he was yonger, not as nasty looking. But I guess that was a way for them to age him.
>>
It was a pretty neat way to end the game but then after about 10 minutes you just want to play as John again and regret finishing the game because now you're stuck with Jack for any post-game stuff you missed.

I thought it was a good ending, but I didn't get much satisfaction out of the revenge itself.

Seeing that the guy had retired and was just living quietly in the countryside with his wife made it feel like it was just another bitter notch in the cycle of vengeance.
>>
>>386185385
I mean he also wasn't pissy and on a mission to kill a big government boy. It's only been a few years between John's death and his quest for vengeance, he just let himself go
>>
>>386185524
>Seeing that the guy had retired and was just living quietly in the countryside with his wife made it feel like it was just another bitter notch in the cycle of vengeance.

That was literally the point anon.
>>
>>386184782
It felt completely hollow, which I guess is the point. That final duel is a fucking joke. There's no epic battle against 20 guys. No public assassination. Nothing. You go murder an old man out on a hunting trip in bumfuck nowhere Mexico. But it makes sense because even if you did have some epic shootout, it wasn't going to change the way people remembered John Marston. There would be a few, like Bonnie, that would remember him as a hero, but most would still just think he was another dumb outlaw that rightfully got served by the law. John didn't need the "redemption" that Jack could provide. John didn't die a hero, but for a while he lived as one. To the people that he saved, he will stay that way.
>>
>>386185524
I gave no fucks. I killed that asshole for breaking his word. First playthrough I let the rest of his family live out of good will but then I killed them all on the second to really double down on the vengeance.
>>
>>386185715
I'm aware. Was trying to say that I wouldn't really describe it as a "cool" sequence.

Just kind of grim.

dont have a subscription and i dont want to waste money on a 1 month sub to play a few days with an anon, though.
>>
>>386187365

Seriously this game didnt need such an unhappy ending

It would have been so satisfying for John to be reunited with his family. I was practically in tears when you finally were able to ride back to your family, and that song was playing, and everything seemed alright. And I loved those simple missions with Abigail and Jack, where you were having conversations and connecting with them
>>
>>386187569
Doesn't resolve shit or warrant anything worthy of note if he just got away with it. The GTAV easter egg implies he straightened up after he killed Ross and wrote a book. Does anyone know if Jack stayed with Abigail up until she died then buried her himself or left home before she died only to come back and nurse her in her final days? I assume Jack had to have left home to learn how to become a son of a bitch to kill Ross.
>>
>>386186618
RDR Multiplayer on 360 has been broken for years m8
>>
>>386188478
>Seriously this game didnt need such an unhappy ending

john dying is less an unhappy ending and more symbolic of the end of the wild west as the federal government finally tames it.

i'd say it's almost like the end of the tokugawa shogunate, aka the fall of the samurai, in that it's about the end of an era.
>>
>>386188392
I think that one guy that was Ross' subordinate should have got some comeuppance too. Last time I played RDR I got to Mexico then stopped because I've got a backlog and I wanted to work on it. Maybe I should chug through it and get to Blackwater.
