The high school hijinks only serves as a hub for slice of life shenanigans between chapters.. You get to go around to other places around the empire.

The story itself is great, but it's extremely slow like Sky's.

Part of why I love FC and SC though is that it doesn't have the choose your own waifu shit and has set relationships it builds around quite well.
Kind of sad CS did away with that, but the game still seems okay.

Nah, you get to go play book-returner twice and do other small-time chores. But the badass police stuff is absolutely badass when they happen

Some anon said that adding waifus into Cold Steel was actually a much later thing in development, and the original script paired Rean and Alisa and their romance was meant to be tied into the over-all plot just like Estelle and Joshua's in Sky.

Since Cold Steel was Falcom's attempt to heavily modernize the series they got rid of the railroaded Alisa romance and let you choose whatever girl there was, but the game still tries to get the player to pick Alisa since her bonding events and romance scenes are insultingly superior than everybody else's.
Alisa is the only girl Rean kisses. Everybody else gets a hug.

In CS1, the U-material shit is barely efficient since you swap out characters each chapter so it's only really viable on Rean or if you want to play favorites, They get much more useful since you can trade them in for better shit in CS2.

Been playing it for a couple of hours now and so far i am liking it. It is interesting how similar the game is to the trails in the sky game that i played except that the perspective is different.
