Most of it is still only on consoles. The games Steam gets are either ports of very, VERY old games, or re-releases of very, VERY old doujin games that have been remade for consoles.

There's been a shitload of modern japanese games on Steam that released on the same day as the console version or shortly after like the Ateliers, Tales of, Souls, most musous, Nier, IF's stuff, etc.

Just because FF and Persona didn't release on it doesn't mean most stuff doesn't make it.

Last I remember, Tales of Berseria released this year.

Atelier Firis released nearly simulatenously on PS4 and PC and we've been getting a slew of recent JRPG ports of games that are only a year or so old on release, most recently being Trails of Cold Steel 1 and 2.
