I mean, to be fair, EoSD feels like an unpolished mess compared to almost any other Windows game.
IN is pretty great, but I feel like the gimmick of familiar destruction is a bit over centralizing, and the bosses past stage 4 were a little eh for me. Reisen is gimmicky, Eirin is stupidly tough until her pushover of a final card, and Kaguya just feels really weird to me, I can't put my finger on it.
As well, like EoSD, IN does suffer from lacking a few quality of life features of later games. I really do think that every team should have just had Team Magic's autocollect properties, and the fact that the sprite for your visible hitbox is on a lower layer than the bullet sprites, meaning that in some cases your character can be completely obscured, is absurd.
Still, a high quality 2hu game. Every game should have spell practice, and do something fun with it (TD gets bonus points, in my eyes, for doing something with spell practice as well.)

Then you have the fucking ghost team. Yuyu had low damage and Youmu was hard to control and had to do some preety unnecesary inputs to make something useful out of it´s great damage. Yuyuko and Youmu have by far the best bants. It's entirely just Yuyuko just completely fucking with Youmu, it's fantastic. Yuyuko's aloof and above it all personality, and her cunning nature, are really allowed to shine in this game in a way that it couldn't in PCB. I would go as far as to say that IN and later SWR save Yuyuko from being a boring character. Youmu is a dumbass, sure, but it plays so well into Yuyuko's personality.

I honestly think it's alright, but it does have some serious issues in terms of playing fair, difficulty curves, shot balance, and general game design (legacy feels like it was just sort of slapped in. You can reach max lives by stage 2, but the max lives are 5 and you get nothing for getting more lives, it's literally a waste of resources.)
And that's not mentioning the various technical and performance issues that plague the game.

I'll defend it because I enjoyed it more than anything else (though, if I were to be honest, LoLK's cast is a big step up from DDC's absolute drag of a cast, where only 3 of the newhus are even really worth discussing, and the first three bosses really only exist to set up the plot and give ZUN excuses to drag you back to these old locations)
LoLK really gets shit on more that it deserves, despite it having flaws. Newhus are cool, the ost is probably among the best in the franchise, the plot is actually fairly interesting, the patterns are decently fun despite their high difficulty, and everything just really works thematically.
Unfortunately, it feels like some people will just barely dig for excuses to hate the game, bringing up these stupid, surface level arguments that don't actually scratch the game's real issues. And the game does have issues. Shots are imbalanced, hitboxes can feel odd, lasers come out too quickly, the chapter resource system could have been slightly more intuitive (though, I will give it points for being a very creative and fun system overall), and the inability to gain more bombs during gameplay outside of a few boss drops in Legacy is simply jarring. Could have used a bit more fleshing out, but still a great experience in my opinion.

I've had far too many discussion about this, but to keep it short Legacy is still a very playable mode, and you can reasonably earn resources by playing on it. You are not punished for playing Legacy like you would be for, say, playing UFO with no UFOs.
Is it difficult to play Legacy? Hell yes, but difficult doesn't mean bad. Difficult doesn't mean good either, which certain members of the Touhou community need to get through their thick skulls.

And as for the difference, it's pretty stemmed in how the games treat them.
In DDC, we spend very little time with the early bosses, and if I'm not mistaken their dialogue tended to be very short. Compound this with the fact that early game DDC was stuffed with characterization (which served the purpose of establishing the girl's new personalities with the cursed items, or to characterize them without the cursed items to create a contrast between the two), or setting up the plot for the rest of the game. While this is a good thing for the story, it results in bosses who get very little time for characterization.
Meanwhile, Seiran, while generic, establishes what a generic moon rabbit is like. Not super deep, but like Rumia way back she serves a pretty important role in establishing a faction. Meanwhile, Ringo drops some interesting tidbits about herself, and establishes that not all Moon Rabbits actually like the moon.

It's because for ghost team the roles of the shot types in normal and focus mode is pretty much reversed. Yuyuko's suit's normal mode more than focused, and vice versa. ZUN probably buffed the damage a bit so trying to focus in boss fights wouldn't be unbearable.
