I just finished 1-3 and need a Castlemania/retrothread.
Which one do I play next?
>>386155834
OP here: I have Rondo of blood, sotn, portrait of ruin, and order of ecclesia.
I'm waiting for the mini SNES to get hacked so I can play super 4 and the GBA ones.
Super Castlevania IV definitely. You can play Rondo of Blood and Bloodlines afterwards if you want.
V
Dracula X
Symphony of the Night
And it's all downhill after that.
You can try Curse of Darkness if you still got that itch, but as much as I loved that game back in the day, it hasn't aged well to be honest.

*IV
Bloodlines
SCV4 Even though it's too easy
Dracula x and rondo are fun
As for the GB games the 2nd one is the only good one.
Well you either on to IV or Chronicles which is what IV should have been. Then Rondo, then Bloodlines, then The Adventure Rebirth. Metroidvanias are alright too I guess.
Go play Bloodlines, Rondo of Blood, Dracula X and Chronicles in no particular order. Play IV last because it's too easy and you might lose skill. Happened to me at least.

Oh yeah, I still have to finish Adventure Rebirth.
Had to change the jumping mechanics to classic. I hated they tried to make it easy
Castlevania IV is just a remake of the 1st with better controls and graphics. I'd start with Bloodlines or Rondo of Blood. Also, Rondo of Blood >>> Dracula X.
>>386157342
I don't mind since it still locks your controls when you're whipping. Doesn't automatically make a game easy either, Chronicles lets you adjust your jump and it's hard as fuck.
>>386157513
No, that would be Chronicles. IV is more like generic platformer with a broken whip
>>386157628
Oh. I thought IV was also a remake of 1.
Play Rondo of Blood or Bloodlines.
>>386156124
I played Curse of Darkness last month and liked it, only thing I disliked was the level design. I hope Lament of Innocence doesn't disappoint me.
>>386157802
It is, I meant that it barely feels like it's part of the classic series gameplay-wise
Am I gonna be the only one that mentions OP calling it "Castlemania" twice?
>>386157519
>Chronicles lets you adjust your jump and it's hard as fuck.
isn't that just the new version? that one is easier than the original that comes with the game
>>386157994
what are you talking about?
I would also recommend Symphony of the Night, but only if you enjoy a lot of backtracking since it's Metroidvania game. Also Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow for a similar SotN experience.
>>386158123
Maybe I'm stupid - what is "Castlemania?"
I know "Castlevania" and I've heard "Metroidvania," but I don't know "Castlemania."
I thought OP was being a retard. Maybe it is I who is retarded.
>>386158024
Nah, both the new and original modes let you adjust your jump. I was actually surprised by this myself when replaying it recently because I did not remember it at all. Goes to show how little of a difference it makes.
>tfw series is dead
fuck konami
>>386155834
classic
>Rondo of blood, bloodlines
metroidvania
>SOTN, aria of sorrow, portrait of ruin
kind of jank 3D games that have their defenders
>legacy of darkness, curse of darkness

EROTIC
VIOLENCE
What is a Castlemania?
>>386155834
Super Castlevania IV, Bloodlines, Rondo, X68000, and Belmont's Revenge are all great. Adventure ReBirth, too.
>>386158735
>>386157994
>>386158123
OP? A retard?? It's more likely than you think.
ITT: worst Classicmanias
>>386158398
It's not like Castlevania doesn't have a fuck load of good games already anyway. And, while I expect more games to happen eventually, I don't understand the obsession with endless video game series.

Unfortunately, /v/'s archive only goes back to 2015, but /vr/ has it from 2013.
