Why would a studio spend so much resources and time on pre-production in a brand new universe for a pseudo-MMO and then just make 1 game?
Of COURSE it would be a planned endeavour - you can not lead such a large team and make such a large contract with the publisher (which has to pay a LOT for this project, I'm sure) without planning ahead. Welcome to AAA gaming. There's nothing inherently bad about a long-term plan, not sure what you're bitching about. This is like being surprised that Blizzard would support WoW for more than a couple of years... no shit.

All of that being said Anthem will probably be very mediocre and not even compare with Destiny (take that as you will). The focus on high-end graphics and facial animations is surely going to fuck with the workflow of new content, it's simply not optimized to be a game with a lot of updates.

I'm keeping a passing eye on Anthem, mostly because the genre it's entering into is only populated by The Division and Destiny 2 (and arguably Warframe). It's a surprisingly small genre, even if you go so far as to call it a console MMO, so seeing another take on it should be interesting.

Edmonton was working on Anthem for the past four years before that trailer. I don't know how much input they got from DICE and other companies on working with Frostbite, but it seems they're doing fairly well for themselves.

Doing just a little bit of googling Bungie admitted the "10 years" thing was a mishandled quote and straight up admitted they don't have ten years of content already laid out because it's nearly impossible to predict where the gaming market is shifting. But the quote still bites them in the ass.

10 years ago? Modern Warfare had just come out, Gears of War was making third person cover based shooters the staple for awhile. No one could've predicted the boom of let's players, now it's all about streaming. But EA is proudly boasting " 10 year journey" it' like they're trying to be an even shittier and more poorly handled Destiny.
