Remember when horror games were actually good?
>>
Pic unrelated, right? That's good aesthetics, bad gameplay horror, which is why the genre is so shitty and stagnant. You want good aesthetics good gameplay horror, like the original Resident Evil for the PlayStation.
>>
>>386122438
Modern horror games have bad aesthetics, bad music and bad gameplay,Clock Tower's gameplay is fine considering that its a point and click adventure.

>>
>>386121725
This game is among my favourites, it had no combat, it wasn't a walking simulator, the scissorman had better scripts for his appearances and the game had a lot of different endings.

No modern horror game can even compete with this or the Playstation sequel.
>>
>>386122556
Not really, considering Connelly controls like the main character of Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures-- unresponsive, flighty, with bad pathing. This is sort of the only way to fuck up something as basic as point and click as far as controls go.
inb4 some people defend it like "oh, she's scared, oh, it simulates how scared she is." Isn't the game supposed to be scaring me? The game doesn't need to simulate what it would be like to control someone who is panicked and afraid, the players' emotional state already impacts the game. (Fucking duh!)
Sanity meters are the stupidest bullshit ever. They're cheap crappy ways of mimicking those feelings of when a games has immersed you and has got you actually paranoid and fumbling the controls as you feel the pressure. You want to simulate teh fear? Make your horror actually work then.
>>
This game was fucking great but it controls like shit.

Ironically, the final boss was super easy because you could glitch him in some part of the scenery, where he doesn't go after you, and you can shoot him arrows from there, and crouch to dodge his attacks, but you were too close to him so you couldn't shoot him charged arrows, so it was kind of a grind.

This is a cutscene, right? That might as well not count. The horror should be all hands-on. Control should only be taken away when an enemy has completely physically restricted the player character, not for dumb little cutscenes. I'd want a horror game with a minimal cinematic platformer-esq control scheme consisting of one control stick and one action button, allowing the player to have complete control over their character while operating with a very cripted camera. I think Silent Hill tried this and did it shittily. Resident Evil's tank controls are sorta unnatural, which fits for those games, but not my idea. Imagine how much more interesting that scene of the camera panning over to the hanging girl would be if the player could, at any point, slam the door and flee. If the player does this, the camera would speeds up to quickly pan over to the girl, then cut to a view of the hallway when the door is closed.

Horror games are meant to, I think, answer the question of, "What if YOU were in the horror movie?" and I think keeping the non-interaction to a bare minimum helps guide the experience to the right place. Every time a cutscene plays, that's not me.

A goofy but pretty posh bong uni student. Finally got her kit off after some dates for the sex, and she was the first girl i had ever fucked with hair when i pulled off the panties. She was embarresed but, oh boy, i don't think my manhood had ever been harder and she dug them nails into my back and arched when i thrust in her. Good shit. Get the prudes anon, they don't fuck for a year at a time and get wet as fuck before you have even slipped your finger in. She left a damp puddle on my sheets when she got her as up off the bed.

It's very overrated and honestly not worth all the time/money/effort involved to find sluts; unless you're a quick leaner and become an Operator at slaying sloots.

The feeling of power and control while you choke a girl while thrust inside of her, pull her hair hard as fuck while your plow her doggystyle or having her call you Daddy and telling you how much she loves your cock in her mouth is the best part.

Don't ever make them cum more than once, never tell them everything about yourself, never ask them what they want tell them what to do, don't use all your party tricks during a single fuck session and always leave them wanting more.

What do you all think of the new trend of hide and seek style horror games popping up since Amnesia like the Outlasts, SOMA, Alien Iso, etc.

They've definitely oversaturated the current market because they're great click bait for YouTube Let's Plays where you can get views by autistically freaking out at jump scares. HOWEVER, I do think some of them have merit/are well designed. I genuinely believe Alien: Isolation is an example of how to do such games well and one of the best horror titles from recent years.

The slow build up of tension, not knowing which enemies to trust sometimes, general atmosphere and gameplay are all well done IMO.

I was about to call you a faggot when you listed Alien: Isolation until I read
>Alien: Isolation is an example of how to do such games well and one of the best horror titles from recent years.

I agree with you completely anon, it shits all over games like Amnesia and Outlast. The problem with these games is that they remove player agency too much, the single most important aspect of video games. I'd like to compare horror walking simulators and hide-n-seek games to Pac-Man, but it'd be an insult to Pac-Man.

Even Pac-Man offered more agency to the player than any of these LPer-bait horror games. Despite each play being extremely short, it gave you a tangible goal, alternate pathways, ghosts that chase and threaten you with your failure state, a way to avoid them, a limited precious means of actually fighting back, a way to get extra lives, and finally a metric by which you can measure your performance. These all come together in a way that the player can actually strategize.

It's a GAME. Amnesia and Outlast fail to provide a real incentive to play more than once. All they've got is the ghosts and little else. They're pretty, they're spooky, but they're SHIT GAMES.

Alien: Isolation has all the right horror ingredients, and many of the features that make it a good gamey game to play.

horror games were always a gimmick and when you figure out the gimmick the only thing that still scares you is the surprise

people kept trying to reinvigorate the genre and (ironically to no surprise) the most featured element of horror is the jumpscare, which is still scary to kids but not to older gamers who find it annoying.
>>
>>386129030
>you mean like an unkillable psycho alien that you can only at most deflect off your ass?

But that's part of my point, you actually have the option to deflect him off your ass. You can also hide from him, often in places that you can use to traverse to other routes to continue your journey, like air vents. There are also other enemies you actually can kill by yourself, and you can even make clever use of the alien to deal with them for you.

It's multiple times more interesting than hiding only. It's gamey, the player has things to do. It's fun.

I never said it was perfect, but it beats the likes of Amnesia and Outlast. There's so much more that could have been done with Alien: Isolation, but it's hitting the right notes and going in the right direction. Same with Resident Evil 7. These are games that have more to them than just being haunted houses at the carnival.

>>
>>386135429

Please tell me you're joking, Outlast 2 is irredeemable trash. The setting wears out it's welcome by the second act (both school and town) and the game loses all tension when you realize that the best way to beat the game is by running through every area as fast as possible because of stupid one shot kill enemies. It gets to a point where it's tedious and boring instead of scary because you're forced to do some sections 2 or 3 times because of enemies that can instant kill you that you literally cannot see coming just because the developers wanted you to die.
>>
>>386134328
>camouflage and Viet cong style traps
Yes, that was exactly my plan. I was planning on most of the enemies being civilians (story reasons), so camo would be reserved for special enemies, though.
I was also planning on making weapon jamming a concern, where wet and dirty places are more likely to cause jams than dry and clean areas. So if you want to fight the best option would be to run until you find a good location to shoot from. Could run the game if done incorrectly, though.

Enemies are only ever one shot kills on higher difficulties, and the only ones that actually kill you in one shot are Marta, Laird, Val, and the, like, two executioners you ever see. So you're wrong there.
I would understand your bit about the setting wearing out its welcome in regard to the school, but you're only in the town for like a third of the game. Then you're in the forest and river and mines.
Maybe it just doesn't adhere to your kind of gameplay style, but I spent most of the time hiding and I had a ton of fun and it scared the shit out of me. Original Outlast was greay too, but O2 is something more.

>Waste all ammo on first zombie

Fuck you have to be really terrible to ever run out of ammo in that game. Granted, there were times where I was down to only 1 clip, but even then the game usually provides just enough.

The horror from Resident Evil literally comes from the unknown. You never know what's waiting around the corner. It could be a simple zombie or a zombie animal. It could be a hunter or a boss fight. Because you have to constantly manage your resources you have to try to be ready for every situation, but the point is you can't possibly be ready for everything the game throws at you. Eventually you're going to be in a situation where you're woefully unprepared and have to just run but the nature of the game makes you never know where or when it will happen.

The same goes with some puzzles too since some can outright kill you.

>Marta, Laird, Val, and the, like, two executioners you ever see

You literally just posted 80% of the enemies in the game. The only other times you see different enemies are the cornfield chase, the start of the forest section and the part of the mines, so how am I wrong in stating most enemies are one-hit kills?

Also, my problem is that they make hiding useless for most of the game. There were times I hid in a barrel, away from anybody that could've seen, but enemies like Marta just magically know where you're hiding and come right at you. That, or, you hide somewhere and wait for an enemy to leave and then get blindsided by an enemy hiding behind a door that there was no way you could've seen and lose 30 minutes of gameplay because you spent time hiding when it's more efficient in almost EVERY scenario to just book it to the next check point. And that doesn't make it scary to me, just irritating and almost boring.

>>386136368
See the game gives you those great atmospheric world-building letters and journals to explore but then completely shits all over it with the one-shot kill enemies. It makes you not want to explore or take the time to flesh out the world because you'll inevitably lose hours of gameplay trying to find things but being killed by hidden one-shot kill enemies. And by the third time it happens, it takes away all tension and it just becomes a boring slog to try and get the collectibles.

Idk maybe I hurt my experience by playing on hard first, but I actually enjoyed the original Outlast. Outlast 2 is just shit to me.
>>

I applaud your attempt but I play though normal to enjoy the story/plot and then go again on Hard to challenge myself.

It's hard to ninja your way though the game with one-shot enemies while still enjoying the narrative at a non-rage inducing pace, you know?

Play it again on normal, senpai; it's a lot darker and unsettling than the first one IMO. I also loved the first game too though.

Honestly I think VR is overkill. For me at least. For brave ones - green light. I've had enough nerve deterioration from 2 playthroughs.

To me it seems like you have no idea what you are talking about since there are products like hair removal/depilation creams or even laser removal methods (creams being the cheapest). So your argument about being clean is brain dead. Also from a medical standpoint you know shit about hygiene since hair in the location like armpits or pubis are prone to infections since they are not in the open so shut the fuck up.

See idk, because I played Alien: Isolation on hard first which is arguable way harder than Outlast 2 because the AI can learn your playstyle and I had a fucking blast even though I died often.

The difference is that A:I actually gives you ways of dealing with enemies besides just hiding or running and you don't lose time by trying to explore because the game rewards the extra effort with crafting items and ammo AS WELL AS journal entries for world-building. The game makes me WANT to explore the areas even if there is a threatening being stalking me. And with save points few and far in between instead of auto-saving at every checkpoint like Outlast 2, I'm tense and on point the entire time because I don't want to lose the items I've crafted or lose all my progress.

Outlast 2, dying is just par for the course because without a guide or previous playthrough there's just absolutely no way you can see some enemies coming or know how to deal with them. Literally, the first enemy encounter with Martha in the game is a prime example of this. Unless you know exactly where she is and how to deal with her, she'll kill you. I haven't seen a single play-through YouTube or otherwise where someone successfully avoided her on the first attempt.
Oh, but it doesn't really matter because dying just means you start from the last checkpoint anyway. Journal and diary entries are always in the same place so dying is more of a inconvenience at most. I was never scared of dying once I discovered that and it just sucks away any sort of dread or terror from the game for me despite better atmospheric moments.

I always liked isolated moving locations, like trains or boats. You can argue how well the actual games turned out, but the atmosphere for RE:0 and RE:Revelations was amazing.

To be fair, you can't really compare the gameplay or both games since one gives you weapons to kill/deter enemies with and the other you have a camera/mic for compete avoidance.

Maybe you went in with the wrong mentality, you know?

Either way you already have your mind made up about Outlast 2 which is a bummer since IMO I like the darker tone than 1.

>Your pubis is your own business. But pubic hair was put there to protect your genitalia from friction and infection. It is more hygienic not to shave it (although depilation does make pubic lice homeless). In removing their pubic hair, most women will get cuts or ingrown hairs, and some will develop inflammation of the hair follicles or hyperpigmentation. If they are really unlucky – or are rubbish with a razor – there is a possibility of skin infections and perhaps an increased risk of catching herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases. This is because the delicate pubis is left with tiny cuts through which bacteria and viruses can penetrate. Removing all the hair leaves your pubis wounded and defenceless

>gives you weapons to kill/deter enemies with and the other you have a camera/mic for compete avoidance

No, I call complete bullshit on this one. At first it seems like a cool addition to the mechanics from the first Outlast but it's honestly just another way to fuck you over as a player. Example:

>At part where you have to turn generator on to operate lift in town
>Slowly sneaking around, being very cautious and avoiding enemies and areas with light.
>See collectible in house, hop in to pick it up.
>Have camera night vision with mic on.
>Mic is flat when standing still and pointed at door to the room, absolutely no sound
>Open door, insta-killed by enemy hiding behind it.

Like, there was literally no POSSIBLE way to avoid that enemy unless you knew he was there. Even the in-game tools the game gives you to detect people are fucking useless. Let's not also forget the mic is useless against Laird because if he sees you he can kill you from across a fucking map with arrows. And the game is just riddled with that bullshit.

But fair point comparing Outlast 2 with A:I is unfair. Let's compare it to the first then. In Outlast 1 when enemies discovered you (even the big guy Chris) you had the chance to run away and successfully hide. When an enemy discovered you and it initiated the chase scene, the actual panic and terror from having to think on your feet to lose an enemy in an unfamiliar setting and find a hiding spot made for some great horror moments. You HAVE to use the tools and settings the game gives you to survive.

Compare that to Outlast 2's insta-kill enemy system where you get through the game by trial and error. You get through sections by knowing where enemies are and knowing the best route to take because you've already died several times to specific enemies. You don't use the tools the game gives you (like the mic) or the mechanics (like hiding) because they don't do shit. The second an enemy finds you, you're dead and start over.

Well, that's only if you're foolish enough to stand there like an idiot doing nothing while the bird attacks. You can trap the bird in the duvet to get rid of it.

It's in your benefit to release it and then trap it in the duvet otherwise he'll rat you out to the antagonist if you try hide in there.
