I probably won't even play. At first I was excited for it when they announced it and I came back. Now it's been like three months and I already burned myself out with the game by catching up in standard. I grinded too much and 3.0 doesn't even add anything to the endgame. It just revamps the main story you zoom through at mach 8 to get to the actual game.

I want to like PoE and I've tried to like it many times. Yet, I can never even last a full league. Diablo II, on the other hand, I played for almost a decade on-and-off.

I'm not even sure what it's missing, but I think it might be the way the endgame works. Just like in D2, you first make a shitty low budget character (vaal spark vs. blizzard sorc etc.) to grind currency with so that you can make actually fun characters. It's the exact same concept on the very basic level. However, I personally feel like PoE has two major shortcomings in comparison to D2.

- PvP in PoE is fucking dead
- Maps are the only endgdame in PoE

If you want exp, you run maps. If you want loot, you run maps. If you want to play the game, you run maps. Maps are monotone as shit because there's no real loot pinatas like Mephisto and other bosses in D2. There's no spikes in excitement, nor anticipation for drops. You just run maps and wait to hear that nice cling from the loot filter. You never have any reason to expect anything to drop. It just does if it does.

And, finally, the problem is that I feel like there's no real motivation to grind past a certain point. You get that second character you wanted to play geared and going, clear all the maps once and that's pretty much it.. It really doesn't fucking matter if you map with a 400 pdps weapon or a 480 one. Once I get to the point where my upgrades are all +10 ex each I just lose all motivation and quit for a long, long time.

What did it really do? It adds no maps. It doesn't change the atlas outside nerfing stran (about time?). No one cares about the acts because it's just shit you do to get to the actual endgame. It's not relevant past leveling and doing the side quests, and this patch focuses on acts and nothing else.

I mean, it's cool and all, to have the game finished, but in the end everyone just runs through them so they can get to maps. My biggest problem with the game is that real progression comes from the clunky as fuck (((economy))) in the game.

Diablo 3 is a turd, but atleast the progression is very clear. In PoE you need to value the item which is retartedly difficult, list it on some fuck-site and pray that you are online when someone wants to buy.

I've found trading in PoE to be ridiculously easy over other games.
And I do like that poe.trade is not built in to the game, lets me multiwindow stuff along with browsing shit while out of game. Its got it's advantages not being integrated.

Theres an entire separate "Solo Self-Found" mode with its own separate ladder. And there are players who have cleared all content in that mode. Its just way slower than normally, thats the only real difference.

Is life alone enough to keep you alive in the endgame? Its easy enough to get like 190-200% inc life but i always feel like i need some extra mitigation like dodge or block.

Anon, getting rich in PoE has little to do with RNG, it has to do with how much time you play and how efficient you are with your time. Everyone eventually finds some good drops as time goes on and the RNG factor kind of mitigates itself.

And heres some beginner tips:

a) Dont bother collecting blue items unless youre really early in the game or want to modify from a blue item. Trade rares (yellows) for currency. Collect whites that have good sockets and links in them because you can craft yourself a rare out of them.

b) Remember the system of the game is based on three stats (three colors), if you're new, stick to 1- or 2 color builds.

c) In the passive tree, Life and ES nodes are the most important nodes, next damage, then armor/evasion and finally utility.

d) By the time you're in Act 3, you can trade orbs into better orbs, clear that clutter of currency you have in your tab or inventory.

e) Flasks are more important than you think. Also get at least one flask with "clears/immunity to freeze" and other flask with "clears/immunity to bleed". Being frozen in place kills you very quickly, while bleed (those red dots around your dude) can stack to insane amounts and kill you lightning fast, especially if you're moving around. Collect special flasks and put them in your stash for special occasions, example: You encounter a boss who does a LOT of poison damage, replace one of your flasks with Chaos Resistance flasks. Early on you can have 2 health, 2 mana and one Movement speed flask, but later on its a good idea to have 1 health, 1 mana, 2 Utility/survivability and movement speed flask as your basic setup.

f) When you're doing a build, figure out a good skill which helps you clear large mobs of creatures, and a good skill that helps you clear out single boss enemies. Movement skills, Auras, Totems and Golems help you stay alive as well.

You also need to find gear which gives you life, to make those nodes more effective. Not every piece of your gear needs to have it but a good number of them.

Just figure out a fun new way to play the game and then figure out how to make it viable after that. Some of the ideas won't work the first time around but you can always figure out what is wrong with them and then improve on the idea next time.

Only reason melee is worse is because you have to be on the frontlines taking hits. And Marauder has plenty of ways to build himself uber-tanky so he doesn't have much problems playing Melee.

If you want a gib-fest where everything explodes into bloody salsa, use Infernal Blow with Melee Splash. And get Fortify to make yourself tankier. Throw in a movement ability like Leap and maybe a Totem and you have a decent standard Marauder. Just remember Life nodes are more important than Damage nodes in Passive Tree and you're set.
