I remember when HL2 was released there was a magazine, I think it was Game Informer or something, that had a review for it. The review basically amounted to "Half Life 2 is a strong FPS, but at it's core it's not nearly as good as its physics engine, the novelty of which wears off so quickly that even the developers seem to abandon it halfway through the game."

The review was highly controversial and was blasted by practically everyone, but I always thought it was completely true after playing it.
