A game that allows you to freely roam around the solar system doing mercenary work. There is on foot combat, but the focus is still on vehicles which you can leave at any time and commandeer any new vehicles you find. Mission have multiple paths through them and ways to solve problems.
I think this sort of gameplay has been touched on, but never really fully fleshed out. It's interesting that as early as Star Fox 2 they were moving away from the rail shooter style gameplay. I do love rail shooters, but they really have to be priced appropriately in this day and age.

No dinosaurs. No Krystal.
a game like assault but with better controls.
think mass effect series except the combat is 70% rail shooting and there's furries everywhere
a game that never comes out
what a shit franchise, kys right now nintendo fanboys
mission-based dogfighting with the inspiration of lighter, more fantastical, less sim ace combat mechanics; backed up by equipment customization/development and squad management with an involved, somewhat cinematic RPG-esque story presentation
a better star fox assault would be pretty cool. i remember the non air parts being jank but still pretty fun
A rail shooter with multiple exits per level for replayability, occasional closed-in free flight sections for big-ass set pieces.
Responsive controls, reliable aiming, decent defensive maneuvers.
Good game feel. When I do barely enough damage to kill an enemy ship it should do a death spiral for a few seconds before exploding. If I decide to go overkill there should be pieces visibly flying off of it with every laser blast until it explod. Damage taken by the player should be palpable through screen queues or (preferably and) rumble features.
Story is fairly minimal. "this nigga is fucking shit up go and sort him out" will suffice. The bulk of the story should focus on banter between your wingmen, rivals, and temporary allies, focusing on making fun and memorable characters. If most cutscenes are more than a minute long, you could probably do well to trim them down.
LITERALLY JUST COPY 64 BUT DO IT BETTER FUCK HOW IS IT SO HARD MOST OF THE GAME IS LITERALLY ON RAILS
I dunno, freelancer with furries I guess.
Sf 64 with 5x the content, in both stages and ships/vehicles. Some light ship customization for playstyle, maybe some very basic upgrading. Then have plenty of hidden routes, lots of bosses. Cover these with fun one off characters for each levels, and ally pilots can show up multiple times with lots of banter, like they already did in sf64. Oh fuk I saved star fox that was super hard.
