It would be my pleasure, honestly. Retinues are your best bet in the end. This also usually involves cultures. My go to is Italian because their pure pikemen retinues are the strongest in the game and will not stop being the stongest.

Light infantry are shit unless you like picking up pieces of your army after every encounter.

Heavy infantry aren't as good at bumrushing niggers as pikemen.

Every other retinue is too fucking expensive or worthless.

If you can't get pure pikemen use defense retinue as above poster said.

Pay attention to your commanders traits. It can save your life and your wallet. Don't put an unmovable wall commanding light infantry because it won't have any effect and will probably just get you butchered. Don't do it for cavalry either.

Cavalry are too expensive to have a shit ton of, but pockets of them mixed in with pure pikemen will decimate any stupid motherfucker that tries to run up on you.

This was a fun game.
Started in a shattered world, fought tooth and nail to form a kingdom and unite Scandinavia. Upon death Danmark goes to my brother who is subjugated by Poland. Started the reconquest and this fucking thing happened.

Anything you can do takes place before combat. Look up combat tactics and see what triggers the good ones and what stops the bad ones from triggering.

For instance as the Khazars I stacked by army with horse archers and heavy cav, then assigned Cavalry leader commanders who each had at least 16 martial ability in order to trigger the harass swarm tactic, which boosts the attack of horse archers by 300%.

The Byzantines declared war on me for the Crimean Peninsula and my 16K horse archer stack melted their 24K stack after making them cross a river to get to me.

Isn't the GoT mod just a different map after all the main characters die of old age?

You're right in that it's hard to expand, at least in the starting republics. Though the starting republics are hard to expand not because merchant rebulics are bad but because you only have big neighbors. Starting as a tribal Ireland and reforming to a merchant republic is the way to learn. All that means though is that republics are suited to building tall, that may not be fun for you but for me it's satisfying to be able to go toe to toe with the largest empires while holding very little land.
One thing to learn is trading zones, and that if you can make one large trading zone that has a trading port on cities you own you can have huge bonuses to tax income. Basically all that means is expand your posts into areas you want to control in the future.
Taking over locations is as easy as either fucking anything that moves and buying one before someone else does, or if you have less or equivalent trading ports you can declare war on families in your republic for their trading posts. Alternatively you can declare war on rival merchant republics for their trading posts, regardless of how many you have.
The "end game" to a merchant republic is when you have to much money you can make any eligible heir into the top dog without sacrificing your entire income.
One funny thing about that game is that game is I converted to judaism and created israel, I thought it was fitting.

Well, in theory they have all those unique features and shit, those will work even without the main cast. But, i must admit, i've never played this mod after 100 years or so have passed. The first five years are always the most fun.

I use CK2+ and I got a strong genius powerful voice emperor that has let me push the empire to it's limits, the problem is that he is 75 and I don't want to keep playing the save because he'll die and it'll be complicated to manage the empire.

Pic related happened on my first Monks and Mystics game. I was playing as the Duke of somewhere in Italy and I had joined Lucifer's Own. I had a demon baby, so when he grew up he was Genius, Impaler, 7 deadly sins, etc. I gave him a province in my duchy just to see what he would do. I wanted him to kill me so that I could play as him. Within a few years, he got promoted to being the head honcho of Lucifer's Own. He sent me on this quest: he wanted me to enthrall him and make him my loyal servant.

I do. It's really nice to see this mod alive and evolving. Even without all the sex-stuff it adds more content, and it's crucial for Crusader Kings. Having an option of disabling some of the most retarded content also helps a lot.
